o2 PAYG to o2 Contract - Number transfer

I'm getting an o2 contract, and o2 says it'll take 2 days to transfer my number, so what do I do until then? Do I have to keep using my PAYG number for a couple of days (to save confusing people with a different number!)

they give you a new number on your new phone

when your PUK number turns up, phone 02, give them that number and in a couple of hours your existing number will work on your new phone
