Can anyone here point me on how to factorise quadratic equations?

I missed a lecture and am struggling on how to actually do it.

Thought I would ask here before trawling through my books.

If you're doing ANYTHING to do with calculus, get a copy of:-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calculus_Made_Easy

I have a 1911 edition and it made it all make total sense. I did A' Maths and my teacher was st. Knew how, didn't understand why. In order to do it, you need to know why.

Helped me through some very full on phys/chem calculations.

You can pick 'em up for 20p.

Get all the x's on one side then remove them by putting brackets around them and then divide by x.

Thank you. Yes only basic stuff, but after 8 years not being at school going back is a bit of a culture shock.

If there is only one side it is not an equation.

Does it not need a Sigma on there as well?? Showing the ranges of x and y or values?

See you've "solved" it, how about posting a pic?

Mine does a similar thing. At the point of orgasm it switches off and I lose interest.

How many factors do you have to break it down to?

I get three:

X
3 Y2 (Y squared)
XY+2

Looks rubbish

Sh!t, your 11 year old has just lost 2 years!!

Anyway, I can do simple factorising when just reducing them into one bracket.

It is when you have 2 or 3 sets of brackets, how do you work out what factors you need?

Sorry I don't know what they are called when it is 3 brackets and cubed.
