Hi,

I'm trying to find some antivirus software that...

- runs from a memory stick
- installs *nothing* on the host PC
- works on MS server OS as well as client OS.
- From a reputable company

Any ideas? I've tried googling but not found anything suitable yet. Somebody *must* have needed this before?!

Closest match I've found so far is Avast U3 edition. The main prolem is that the U3 part seems unreliable. From the five machines I've tried it on (all XP) only one has actually worked.

Thanks

What are you actually looking for?

An on-demand scanner that you can carry around and run on anything you suspect to be infected or want to check?

Something you can put in a PC and run that runs "on the fly" to provide real-time protection?

McAfee stinger is the closest I can think of (http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/) but has a very limited database. Your other option is to use a free online virus scanner such as the one offered by Panda.

Thanks for the replies.

To clarify, I'm looking for something that can be carried around on a memory stick and used to check any suspect computers.

Macafee Stinger - I've looked at this but, as you say, the database is a too limited.

Online Scanners - some of the machines I'm targeting are likely to be on private networks with no access to the internet unfortunately. USB memory sticks are freely used however hence the cause for concern.

Any other ideas anyone?

There are lots.

Norman, Sophos, DrWeb, A-Squared, Trend Sysclean, Sophos SAVFXCLI and on and on...

Keep in mind many of these don't update, you have to download the latest version each time you need it to stay up to date.

I think this may be what you are looking for

http://www.pocket-lint.com/review/2446/yoggie-pico...

It runs a linux OS and has a host of security applications that run 'stand-alone', very good reviews by all accounts

I am pretty sure they are down to about £50 if you shop around.
