I hope I have posted the link below ok.

Its an old Breitling that is on Ebay that I like. I prefer the vintage stuff so am thinking of treating myself. As the title said really what do you think it worth. Its not an investment by just something I would like.

Any comments and advise greatly received.

Get yourself over to here....

And post it in the vintage forum.
Vintage Breitlings seem to be a minefield of fakes, and the chaps on there seem very knowledgeable.

Sorry Steve, I'm no expert on Breitlings, and generally buy what I fancy (and can afford!) off ebay.
I only found that Breitling forum myself this week after buying my fist Breitling, a rather battered but nice 1970 Top Time chronograph.
Generally I'd go by feel, and if a watch looks too clean and there's no age to the lume then i'd stay clear as it's probably had some work done.

I see they've steered you clear over on the Breitling forum, looks like it was too good to be true.

Good luck and happy hunting!

Well the movement doesn't look like a fake... if you were going to fake this then you'd use the Sea-Gull ST19 movement which is an updated version of the Venus 75 (Sea-Gull bought the design and the tooling from the Swiss). However there's a distinct difference between this movement and the Sea-Gull one: the bridge signed 'Breitling' on this watch is almost L-shaped, whereas the Sea-Gull one is C-shaped. It's very distinctive.

As to the provenance of the rest of the watch - no idea. But it's certainly not the usual 'replica' type fake (Sea-Gull movements are expensive by 'fake' counterfeiter standards, they prefer the cheaper Chinese copies). It may be a bitsa, it may be a frankenwatch. But the movement looks pretty kosher to me.
