Undercover police bike?

On th A6/A45 between Cambridge and Northampton today travelling behind a biker who appeared to be on an unmarked motorbike, wearing unmarked leathers but with a white lid that said Police on it with a blue and white checkerboard design underneath.

He was travelling exactly at the limit on all the roads and didn't take any action to someone who flew past us on the dual carriageway at 100+, only moved out to lane two to slow him down.

Is this some kind of unmarked bike (who forgot to take his hat off), someone off-duty travelling to work, or just someone who fancied themselves as a special cunstable (sic)?

Could very well have been an unmarked bike, there's a few knocking around.

We've got an unmarked bike at our place - usually the same kit as the marked bikes. Quite handy and hard to spot unless you know what ytou are looking for.
