I have my 2008 yamaha xt125x advertised locally and this nipper really wants it but is getting half his money off his Grandad. Now this nipper apparently has been stung a few times with Chinese learner bikes and before his Grandad will give him the money he wants it checked out in a garage about 25miles away which I've never heard of. They have offered to trailor it away but won't let me hold full asking price while he takes it away and I can't be bothered to go with them because I've got much better things to do. So i've told them either give me full money (not half) for me to hold while they get it checked out or get someone to check it out at my house. Am I being unreasonable?

Def not. Sad but not worth the risk these days IMO.

nope. who knows what will go on out of sight? Asking for hassle one way or another.

Why can't it be inspected locally?

More to the point, if it's advertised as what you say it is and they come round and have a look at it, why the hell would they think it's a chinese copy anyway?

I'd definately not be letting it go anywhere without full price in your hand first.

I think he means that they have had a few chinese bikes that have been unreliable and they want to make sure this one is in good mechanical order chinese or not.

It's probably all legit and they are just trying to be safe but I wouldn't hand over anything without a full deposit.

Compromise.

Ride the bike to the garage for him and be there while his mechanic checks it over; that way you know nothing is going on behind your back.

^ this, but if 25miles is too far out the way as i'm assuming it is, tell them to find someone more local to do it.

Whilst I agree you shouldn't give in to all buyers demands I don't think it is that unreasonable for someone to want to check out the bike.

Depends how much you want to sell it, assuming it is in good nick, it'll take about half an hour to check and a 50 mile round trip. Weather is good, I'd ride the bike to the place and then ride it back. Agree full asking price assuming the bike is cleared and everyone is a winner!

If the price they are paying is a good one I would find the time to take the bike over to whoever. Tell them you want at least £50 up front which will pay for your petrol/time should they back out of the deal.
