A victory for the climate realists, or political 'points scoring'?

A reality check I think.

Also the tax review coming out is about to crucify the large mining companies, so to have carbon taxed that as well would have been a step too far.

This is more than political point scoring. The opposition threw out their last leader because he backed an ETS and voted their new leader solely on the back of his anti-ETS and skeptic stance.

This is good news for realists, just have to hope it spreads.

Don't think it's really to do with MMGW stuff.

It's that the majority of Australia's money comes from digging stuff out the ground, refining it and selling it.

To enforce "cap and trade" would be self flagellation. Why would you want to restrict your economy in sush a way, when it's all you've got?

I was out there at Xmas (I'm an Aussie) and my friends are in the mining industry. They know China's bulk buying or resources the only reason they didn't dip into resession.

But it's all about saving the Planet, right?
Money shouldn't enter into it...

Whilst I think it's true that economics played the lead part in this the new opposition leader (sorry can't think his name) has been known for some time as a AGW sceptic.

This is terrible news! Some wealthy people were expecting to become exceedingly wealthy from the carbons trading scheme. How will they cope if people opt out?

It's alright the EUSSR and its fellow travellers will be donating all your money to the cause.
