Anybody had any experience of trying to get rid of them/best methods, timescale etc? We live in a timber framed weatherboard clad house. Very old grade 2 listed and I think they are everywhere. Have found some in pretty much every room and heard the tapping in a couple of places. The wife is going mental at me wants to move out etc but I really don't. Got a man coming this morning and he has mentioned painting the beams with something to kill them. These are 7" thick beams though is that really likely to work. Just want to know what I'm up against, what to expect in terms of upheaval and don't want to be fibbed off with duff advice from this bloke today. Any help much appreciated.

Painting or spraying is ok for thin timbers but anything much larger should be drilled and pressure injected for best penetration. As this is a hardwood type of beetle, a spirit based product such as Xylophene works well for this.

What are you up against?

Well she will wreck your clothes (and they'll end up on the front lawn) never talk to you again, take all your money, tell all your friends/family how small your dick is, run off with your best mate, and take your car.

Deathwatch beetle? No idea.

I would get a proper specialist in - someone like Ridout

As I understand it, the injection/paint on systems have limited effect esp in an old oak frame. They don't penetrate well and are pretty noxious products to be off-gassing in your home. I have heard positive reports about traps for deathwatch beetles.

Cheers for the replies I will see what this man says as I don't think he realised what he was up against on the phone. Traps sounds interesting and at least the missus will be seeing some kind of action being taken. I'm off to google them now. Cheers

Burn the house, it's the only way to be sure. Seriously.
