We've just moved in to a house which used to have Sky+, so 2 cables are fed from the dish.

I'm assuming I can reposition the dish, buy a Freesat PVR, and away we go.

Any hints, tips or recommendation for hardware please!

We've found the Humax to be the most reliable, never had an issue with any as yet!

Humax all the way. Ours is great and had it since launch.

You shouldn't need to fiddle with the dish if it hasn't been moved since the Sky was unplugged.

Yep. Or if it isn't you don't need to fiddle with the dish. Plug and play!

Only issue I've had with the Humax box was down to a dodgy HDMI cable.

We had Sky+HD for years, and got fed-up with the bills. Replaced it with a Humax Foxsat HDR - 240 quid from Tesco. Just plugged it in to the existing satellite cables - job done.

I have this one and rate it (have come from Sky+)

Some cool features that aren't on Sky+ (offload media to a HDD via USB, ability to bookmark recordings for example, recorded F1 and able to bookmark the point where Vettel and Webber crashed to make it easy to find when viewing / showing friends).

Ability to play BBC iPlayer although I don't have the internet sorted at my house yet.
