Spotted: Mercedes E-cell On The Road
PH Viking Tour ambushes the AMG Electric SLS in Norway
The eyes of PH, it seems, get everywhere. No sooner had the webosphere got hold of the official images of Merc's new electric SLS, the E-cell concept, than we got a call from PHer Harsh, currently on the PistonHeads Viking Tour, to say the PH convoy had spotted one live in the 'real world'.
It turns out that Merc engineers looking after the E-cell were more than happy to chat to our guys, and let them take these pics.
Apparently, the car has a 160km range currently, and can charge up in just one hour, although its engineers are working to improve both of those figures.
We already know from yesterday's news that the 'leccy Mercedes can sprint to 62mph in 4.0secs, but we're now also told that it can hit 125mph from rest in 11.0secs, on the way to a 186mph top speed.
Our travelling super-sleuths also found out that the lithium polymer batteries are bespoke Mercedes efforts, and that the adjustable front splitter and rear diffuser work their high-downforce magic at 70mph.
The only thing our fellows didn't manage to winkle out of the test team were some free AMG fleeces...

must have a advanced computer to keep all 4 wheels talking the right way to get max grip and safety.

t in Norway now so at least I don't feel quite so p'eed off that I'm not on the Viking Tour this year
Saw Pete's pics from earlier in the week and the weather was as good as here, that car park by the Atlantic Bridge seems to attract nice cars......wonder where they Merc boys were going to coming from?

I think they should have an all electric F1 season. There is a lot of technology in the average family car that derives from F1 and perhaps by (them) spending billions on R&D it could be a future for the 'normal' electric car.
300 miles on a charge. 8 hour charge period. etc. etc.

The silence produced by that thing is almost dignified. I was expecting the trodden-on-cat wail of a millk float when it pulled away. Silence is better than that.

The "noise makers" I've read about for electric cars all seem to be about mimicking classic internal combustion engines, which seems a bit disingenuous and a missed opportunity. Imagine if it sounded like a Tie-Fighter (from Star Wars, for the younger PHers
).I would sell the house. I'm not kidding.
