It's doing my head in. It's not muted. I've tried every relevant port. Still silent. Speakers work fine. I've tested hardware and nothing. I've tried plugging headphones into the various ports (it's a magnet after all). Still nothing.

Any suggestions?

biggrin

I tried a pair of headphones as they use the same principle, don't they? (Vibrating magnets?)

So you haven't got a microphone, you are plugging headphones into the mic jack?

Is there a volume control on the mic, had similar with cheap skype type headset, no amount of faffing with windows sound/drivers would make the mic work.

Then noticed the headset had a volume control half way down the wire turned the control on, et viola. rotate

Sadly, no. Very simple mic on a stand.

Well, bought a new mic and it works. Damned coincidence that the mic dies the same day my old PC died. Can't believe how much time I wasted checking the new system was set up correctly. rolleyes

Still, old mic served me well. Got it with my AWE32 sound card. Remember when 16 Mb of RAM (SIMM?) cost £300? nuts
