Painted Directions on roads
Discussion
Take a 2 lane DC up to a roundabout with 2 lane DC leaving other side and usually the 2 lanes of traffic travel straight through.
There's a right turn off the roundabout so painted in the right lane is a white right turn arrow with right turn place written on the road.
Is this advisory or is anyone carrying straight on using the right lane liable to offence?

For the arrow to be mandatory it will have Turn right written underneath it.
As the OP said it had - StreakyEdited by vonhosen on Saturday 3rd July 10:17
He asked a question, I made a statement that gave the answer to that question.

No it didnt have 'turn right' it only had the destination word
Traffic lights often have one lane with straight on arrows and one with right turn arrows painted on the road without any words.
I take it those are advisory too, so you can go straight on provided theres enough room the other side

You can do what ever you like because you have choice, but how others view it & choose to deal with it you have rather less control over.Traffic lights often have one lane with straight on arrows and one with right turn arrows painted on the road without any words.

Just because something isn't forbidden in law it doesn't mean that you should do it.

I saw someone do it at lights while I was in the left laneThe green right filter light wasnt on but it was green to go straight on so they did. The junction was just as wide the other side so no problems with space even though it was only marked as one lane that side.
Nothing unusual about it except for the white right turn arrows on the road

I refer you to the earlier post.
Maybe they ended up there by mistake and didnt want to turn right, maybe they always do it in that town.
If you get in the wrong lane what should you do ?
If others disagree with what you (always) do, what might happen ?

Ah, now I understand what you meant by "right turn place written under it" ... I thought you meant that the words "TURN RIGHT" were there - StreakyMeh, I'll just continue to assume the feckers are going to swop lanes on me screaming 'Banzaiiiii!!'. It's kept me out of trouble so far.

Going slightly off topic for a moment, "unwritten conventions" often crop up.
From junction 17 of the M4 going south, the A350 is a dual carriageway. Coming westbound, traffic for the dual carriageway tends to use both exit lanes from the M4. Coming eastbound, however, there seems to be an unwritten convention that suggests you should be in the right hand lane if you want to go south. At peak times, this leads to queues in the right hand exit lane and an empty left hand exit lane. There are no direction indicating arrows in either lane.
I appear to frequently piss people off by going up the left hand lane, staying in it whilst negotiating the roundabout, then going south down the dual carriageway.
I take the view that, with no signage to the contrary, what I am doing is perfectly in order.
