When I click on the thumbnails in the various car ads I no longer get the enlarged images.

I know this is a problem at my end but it's bloody frustrating, so any suggestions on how to fix it would be gratefully recieved.

Cheers Dan

P.S. I've checked for viruses, defraged the disk, installed the latest version of java runtime, as well as checked me IE security settings. anything I've missed?

nope I probably have one of the most open machines in the world. I bought my first ever virus checker to see if it was a virus that was causing the problem. Things were working fine till a couple of days ago. I have no idea whats caused this...

Nope really nothing. Nacnud tore a strip off me cos I didn't have a virus checker, didn't have xp firewall actvated anything, I was a hackers dream.

I bought norton yesterday to see if the prob was caused by a virus, but I was pretty much clean.

I'm really at a loss, i've searched the google groups as I think it might be a problem with window.open but so far haven't found anything usefull

Some versions of Norton do install an ad blocker by default. Then again if you can see the other ads then it won't be that.

Yeh I installed norton after experiencing the problem so I'm pretty sure thats not causing a problem.

I've tried other sites and have no problem with autotrader (getting their popups) but do have an issue with exchange and mart, which is why I know its at my end

I'm guessing it's something with IE but I'll be buggered if I know what to do about it

Nope I mouse ove the image and get the 'click to enlarge' text, click...... nothing, diddly!!

I've just had a look at the source and it's gotta be something in here...

a onClick=return(rsc_h_click()); href="javascript:void(0)" target="_self" onMouseOver="status='Click Here to enlarge...';return true" onMouseOut="status='';return true" onClick="windowHandle=window.open

...I'm not a developer so I've only got a vague idea what all this means

Autotrader does this....

a onClick=return(rsc_h_click()); href="javascript:more_info(200411132792051,45,'CARS',1);">1992 AUDI S2 turbo</a

Exchange and mart does this...

a onClick=return(rsc_h_click()); href="javascript:;" onClick="MM_openBrWindow('/fulladview/fulladview.php?id=uap-em-rcp3-20040320/cars/-101/5-16/5980198.txt~Car~N~UAP~~~~N~6750~68 miles~&code=bc9534fad65228a1ddf95ba3c658ca9a','','scrollbars=yes,resizable=yes,width=530,height=560')" title="Click here to see the full ad">1994(L) AUDI S2 Avant, 120000</a

Dunno if this helps but like I say Autotrader works PH and exchange and mart don't

Something's adding some code in. The rsh_click thing isn't mine.

The code should look like this:

<a href="javascript:void(0)" target="_self" onMouseOver="status='Click Here to enlarge...';return true" onMouseOut="status='';return true" onClick="windowHandle=window.open('http://www.pistonheads.com/include/popup.asp?title=PistonHeads.com&pictureURL=www.pistonheads.com/classifiedpics/20966-1.jpg', '_popupImage', 'width=750,height=562,scrollbars=0,resizable=1,toolbar=0,personalbar=0,menubar=0,status=0' ); windowHandle.focus();"><img src="http://www.pistonheads.com/classifiedpics/20966-1t.jpg" border="1" alt="Click to enlarge..."></a>

Wow thats bizarre the code listed below is taken directly from the...

View - Source

...in IE.

If I can get hold of him I'll ask Nacnud what he see's

I did have a couple of instances of hijacked browsers, but not recently.

Try doing the view source on the page and then a search for the text "function rsc_h_click". You should find something like...

function rsc_h_click(){
[bunch of stuff here...]
}

If you can find that, copy it here as that might give a clue as to what's intercepting the onclick event.

The fact that you've got that same onclick event cropping up in the three samples you provided does seem to suggest that something's interfering with the pages as they're downloaded.

The only 'rsc' in my source was in 'Porsche'!
Dan, can you email the entire page and I'll have a look and see if I can work out what that mysterious javascript method is up to...

I did a search on my Hard drive for the text string, and in the process found a Trojan Virus. I don't know if these are the symptoms of a trojan but I'll see what i can do about removing it.

As has been said it looks like something is planting itself into my browser.

Does anyone know anything about IE scripts (if they exist) and how to fix them??

Thanks Nud I'll speak to you in the morning

Cheers Dan

Bugger.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks for the input.

Think I've fixed it!!!!

Bought Norton, which I guess is great at preventing stuff, but didn't seem to fix my problems.

On advice from a collegue I downloaded Ad-Aware.

Top bit fo kit!! easy to use, FREE and seems to have done the trick nicely.

I'll let you know if I get any reoccurance. Thanks Ted and everyone for you help in identifying what the root cause of the problem was.

Cheers Dan

Glad to hear you've got it sorted.

Repeat after me....
"My firewall is enabled and my virus checker is active and the definitions are up to date"
