Anyone use Outlook on a Mac?

I noticed MS Office 2011 for Mac is being released soon and was intrigued.

I currently use the Apple Mail for all my emails however I am keen to understand if Outlook would be better?

What are peoples opinions?

Used Entourage for a bit (the last MS mail client). Isn't a patch on Mac Mail.

There a couple of little bits, however, where it was better - when deleting/filing a mail you had the option of it automatically opening the next in your inbox (or whichever folder you were in). And you could file a mail when it was open (little folder drop down). Mac Mail can do neither. But that's about it in terms of shortcomings IME.

I very much doubt I'll bother with Outlook. Word/Excel/Powerpoint are very good on the Mac, but would take some seriously good features to make me bother with the mail client.

That's not quite true; Mail.app (Apple Mail) can do both of those things.

1. Filing a message that is open.

If you use a two-pane view - mailboxes on the left and message list on the right - then, when you open a message into its own window, you will see a small evelope icon in the window title. If you drag that to one of the folders in the left pane, the message will be filed and the message window closed.

In three-pane mode - mailboxes on the left, message list on the top-right and message body bottom right - then, it's a non-issue because you can drag straight from the message list to the mailbox pane as normal. This will file the message and open the next message in the bottom pane.

Which brings us on to...

2. Automatically opening the next message.

This, as described above, is possible in three-pane view but not in two pane. When you delete a message in three-pane view, the next message is automatically opened.

On the subject of the OP, Mail.app as of Snow Leopard is actually a very good Exchange client, along with iCal and AddressBook.

I use Mac Mail along with Address Book and iCal on my Macbook for home exchange. Quite handy that I have Entourage hooked up to work exchange so can have them both open but seperate.

Will be interested in seeing Outlook.
