I've got a job interview coming up next week and as part of the interview they want me to prepare a brief/presentation. This is what the college is asking..

'Produce an innovative solution to invite prospective students and parents to the event'

I'm racking my brains and have a few idea's (social media etc) to crack on with, but would love to hear if any of you PH's have an ideas which would be innovative and sweep them off their feet.

Well, the first thing we / you need to know is; are they testing you on your presentation skills or your idea development skills - or both?

If both, it is reasonable to expect a degree of weighting towards one or the other so find out where to exert energy and effort.

As above posts, need to know what form the event will take and how much they want to spend on it,

The term “innovative solution” is the most hackneyed in modern business and is bandied about with such regularity that nobody stops and thinks about what it really means – or if it’s actually necessary. There are only so many ways to boil an egg and often it comes down to simply doing something very well and better than the competitors.

Worth separating out the strategy from tactics.

Strategically, think about the benefits people will gain by attending. Think in terms of their futures (students) and how this event could determine their lives.

I was thinking a headline along the lines “Future proof your life. Find out how…..”

Tactical stuff is how you deliver the message and here you can talk about social media, viral, guerrilla marketing and the like but don’t dwell on this. Proposal should be 70% strategic, 30% tactical.

I would think the important thing will be how you structure the presentation. I.e. not more than 6 bullets per slide, ideally 3-4 slides for a 10min presentation.

One to tell them what you're going to tell them, the next to tell them it, the final one to tell them what you've told them.

Use the presentation as a structure rather than reading the slides to them, they can read too. Talk around your points, and leave time for questions at the end.

I would say aim to talk for 10min max, then 5min questions.

In terms of ideas, that's less important, a free brothel would get both parents and students in, well it's an idea.
