Hi

As everyones kit seems to be expanding do any of you have camera insurance?

I have done a few quotes and I have one for £47.50 per year. Does this sound reasonable? £2K Worth estimated.

Do you need to submit receipts before hand or can I provide serial numbers? I'd be buggered if I could find the receipts now

Thanks

Scott

Sounds about right, I'm paying £101 a year for about £3k's worth (I need to re-assess due to recent purchases) plus £2m PLI Cover. That's through Photoguard. Haven't had to claim yet though so can't really comment on the service

Whats the PLI for? I assume you do pro work?

Did you have to submit receipts when registering kit?

It seems reasonable but what's important is what it covers. Does it have public liability, theft from a vehicle, EU coverage, etc (if you need them)?

You normally have to submit the serial numbers only first, then receipt when you make a claim (I think, I don't know as I've never made a claim for anything).

Thats a pain then. No chance of me finding the receipts. I may find one for the lens I purchased last week hehe

You should ask the insurance company. The one for my musical instruments accepted picture of the item with serial number showing as I didn't have the receipt (although it was a vintage item), so they might do the same?

Not all the time but when I need a shooting permit, it helps, or when doing track work you generally need PLI before the track owners will issue you with a pass.

I managed to get it all insured on my house insurance (which includes European cover) for an extra £15 a year. Not bad for just over £4k's worth of stuff.

Ditto - just in the process of renewing house insurance and I haven't found any company where covering the camera gear in and outside the home for theft or accidental damage would cause a problem or costs incurred by those taking "specialist" insurance.

For those of you (non-pros), why do you take specialist insurance? Am I missing something obvious?

Contents Insurance *may* not cover you if the equipment is lost/damaged away from the home, or, like our contents, it only covers up to a certain value, which barely covers the cost of a body, let alone lenses, lights etc so this is where the specialist insurance comes in.

Good topic as it's something I've been considering over the last week or so. Someone mentioned to me the other day that lenses are often not covered by house insurance also - don't know the rationale for this, but for the relatively low cost of specialist insurance my inclination is to take that.

I use Photoguard.
£3500 worth of equipment.
Includes 'left in locked vehicle' cover for £125 (no excess).
£30 extra for a couple of weeks European cover.
