Yes I've used the PH Google search and I've read through those threads.

Whilst I much prefer gas to cook with it is not practical where I am living at the moment (tiny flat rented and no gas supply). I currently have a useless ancient electric hob nigh on impossible to control the heat, so was thinking of swapping out for induction and then swapping back when I leave (landlady won't pay for a new hob - understandable). Presumably as long as the dimensions are the same then it is a relatively straight forward swap?

I understand the tech, pros and cons etc. Can anyone recommend a specific model from recent buying experience? Standard 60cm. Nice features would include timer, unattnded rapid boil then simmer and a lock. Budget say £500 tops new. Might consider refurbed/2nds if a reliable source.

Try a standalone portable one. There's a few here.

Thanks Tina. I initially considered that but given how small my kitchen is ironicallly I would gain double the flat space for food preparation by swapping the current hob out for induction. Also I would genuinely have nowhere to sit a standalone single/double hob except balanced on the existing hob which kind of defeats the object of the exercise. smile

Granted, does seem an expensive way of fixing the problem though. wink

That looks fantastic value for money - and ideal to try out the technology without spending huge sums on a fitted one.

Sorry should have mentioned that I did have use of a full size Neff induction in my previous accommodation. Similar situation as it was even smaller than my current kitchen and found the extra flat space very useful for prep etc. Still not the same as gas but you get used to them. I'm guessing they are all much of a muchness so I'll research the cheapest ones with the right features and take it from there.
