Using a 1080p TV as a monitor.
Discussion
Is it worthwhile to even consider this?
A 32" 1080p LCD appears to be far greater value than say a 24" dedicated monitor, is it a daft idea to even consider using it this way?
FWIW I use my PC simply for internet/photos and watching educational videos at a normal desk. I currently use a 19" monitor which is starting to feel a bit 'cramped'.

If your 19" monitor has a resolution of 1600 x 1050, and your 32" TV has a resolution of 1366 x 768 then you'll gain nothing (in fact it will be worse).
If your TV will display 1920 x 1080, then you'll gain a bit of extra screen space.
But at the same time, everything will look that much bigger, which may possibly lead you to feeling that you have gained nothing.
ETA: At work I have two HP 20" monitors running at 1680 x 1050, and when I get home I work on my laptop running 1440 x 960 and it does my head in....

I've tried my laptop up to my 32" HD TV and its ok quality for just watching films but when you have text it looks a bit blurey. It may be better if you use a HDMI cable.
For my PC I have 2 x 21.5 inch 1980 x 1080 monitors using DVI like this one http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?product_...
This gives really good quality and it better than just one monitor as you can have say a word document up on one screen and then google up on the other for researching the document you are writing.
I use mine mainly for video editing so I can have the film strip on one screen and then a preview on the other screen.

I use a 32'' HD TV for a monitor.
Obviously it has HDMi ports and my Graphics card has an HDMi out as well as the standard VGA and DVIX. Currently its rigged up via the DVIX connection and as long as you change the screen resolution to 1920x1080 (1080p) its every bit as sharp as a smaller monitor.
Got no problems with this set up and Games look AMAZING in 1920x1080. Some games I had to fiddle around with to give a custom running resolution. I have to say I've never actually tried using the HDMi cable... dunno why, i guess im just lazy.
I might try it tonight and see if its any better!

Make sure you have the correct resolution for the monitor or it will look blurry. I have a 32" at home connected by a VGA cable and at 1366 x 768 it looks great, anything else is crap. The problem I found with the HDMI cable is I could only select 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080 as the resolution which mean't the picture was distorted.
