Interesting it's the same price (initially at least) as the D300s which (besides a slightly lower sensor resolution and the lack of full HD video) seems the more fully featured camera of the two?
Struggling to understand what Nikon has done here unless the D7000 replaces the D90 and D300s ???

The inclusion of scene and auto modes would indicate to me that it's aimed at people who want high quality pictures but who dont necessarily want to know how a camera works. That wont be true in all cases, and I'm certainly no "must shoot manual at all times" believer, but giving it an auto is where the sales people who demo them will start
Not a D300s replacement in my mind, allegedly the ISO capabilities have been ramped up but I wouldnt expect contention with the IQ of the D700 either

The inclusion of scene and auto modes ...
But the D300 (and so I assume D300s) already has an auto mode. I think you could just as easily shoot the D300(s) in auto mode and learn absolutely nothing about all the other manual functions and buttons if you wished. I've always found having 11 different scene modes (or whatever) actually adding to the complexity for a consumer. Will be interesting to see how the new sensor handles low light noise and high iso.

I reckon there will be another new model announced soon that is aimed at the 'pro' range.
That is my fear - I'm wanting something new but don't want to jump the gun.For some reason I'm obsessed with getting a full frame camera. No idea why, but there you go.

I guess they cost more then in real terms and margins were higher.

camera receipts going back to 1979.
I remember that my F3's (in 1981?) cost £345 including VAT. I can't remember what the MD4 motor drives added.
and my F100 and MB16 grip (late 01) cost just over £900 including VAT.

I've just got my hands on one, too early to give any feedback over theD90/ D200 I have been using other than it's always nice to have a new toy
