strange.

Is it running XP? Can't remember if the later NC10s were shipped with Win7 or not.

I don't think I ever had any major problems with mine.
I've upgraded mine to win 7 now and put in a draft n wireless card.

I'm having a bit of a blank as to the XP network connections, I think there's a list in the adapter properties. Can't remember exactly how to get to it without booting up an xp machine, its somewhere in there, biggrin

Go to a PC that has a working internet connection, click Start> Run> cmd> OK

type ipconfig/all then OK

Write down the Default gateway, usually something in the region of 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 and take a note of the subnet mask, usually 255.255.255.0 and the DNS servers.

Then go to the problem PC, click Start and find the network settings. Right click on your connection and then properties, go to the advanced tab and edit the TCP/IP settings to the ones you wrote down, what you want to do here is create a static IP for the problematic PC, just use the same as your default gateway but change the last 3 numbers somewhere in the region of 192.168.1.175, then after you have entered all the other information click apply.

You should be ok now.

Had something similar once, and it ended up that I had two devices on the network running DHCP servers (wireless router and the cable modem).

Could be something similar.

Is this connection ever used or needed? If not, I'd get rid as it is more than likely not helping matters.

TBH, when I have seen this problem with XP before, it's usually because there has been some third party internet connection software (like something from Linksys/Netgear/your brand of router) installed on the computer in question which never seems to work as well as the XP equivalent, if at all.

Without seeing it for myself (and assuming you don't need any of the third party software I speak of), i'd recommend trying:
  • uninstall any third party connection software
  • go to control panel > internet options > connections tab > and remove all entries from the "dial-up and virtual private network settings" box
  • in the same screen as above, click the "lan settings" button and make sure all boxes on that page are un-checked
  • go to control panel > network connections > make sure your wireless LAN connection exists and is enabled
  • providing the above is present and correct, right click on your wireless LAN connection and click "properties" > on the "general" tab, double-click "internet protocol (TCP/IP)" > make sure the "obtain IP address automatically" option is selected
As a disclaimer, the above has worked for me before, but may end up making your situation worse..! However, if one of your alternatives is to do a full fresh install of XP, I don't think you'd go far wrong trying the above first.

There is a problem on some of the NC10's where if you update the wifi driver it screws the connectivity ....

the update was offered by the samsung update manager - happened to mine and a mates as well - he ended up rebuilding his I refrigged the wireless install and got it working.

SImes.
