Group buys

I know that generally we keep ads out of the threads, but are 'group buy' opportunities allowed?

For example, if I spot a good deal on a bunch of a particular performance mod item for BMWs, could I post in the BMW section to tell people about it and so that they can get in touch with me to order one of the items?

I'd say no, as it's still classified as advertising (ultimately for commercial purposes); and is still against the PH posting rules.

And if it was allowed, then I can see all the forums being constantly spammed by group buys; and traders using another route to spam the forums.

So no - but the classifieds are still there to use to promote it

Well given group buys have been going on, in various forums for years either the mods haven't done a great job, or HM have turned a blind eye.

If it's not a company / individual promoting their own stuff, then I don't personally see too much of an issue.

Agreed. I remember one for G lock's for seatbelts and there were the Union Jack TVR badges just off the top of my head. Oh and also one for TVR Tuscan race car windscreens which appears to have saved a number of members money.

Not trying to st stir but TBH I wouldn't ever have thought to ask the OP's question as my impression has always been that so long as it isn't an ad, just a heads up that a member can get everyone money off something off a 3rd party if they want to join in a group buy, it has always been cool.

Admittedly if, say Der, were to say he has 406 CRT TV's he's shifting for £50 but if 50 PH'ers buy one he'll do them at £40 that would be out of order (and not the sort of thing Der would do anyway!) but the Tuscan windscreens is a perfect example of what makes this place better than the dross.

Considering he is a site moderator, they can be as pissed as they like, he's just enforcing the rules that everyone agreed to when they signed up.
