Freesat HD on a monitor?
Discussion
I have just had a dish installed and connected it up to a Technisat HDFS receiver.
For anyone nosey, the coax seemed to get damp and so TV picture quality was proportional to the quality of the weather
All straightforward stuff.
Normal channels work fine on the (old CRT via SCART) TV.
Normal channels work fine on the monitor (HP LP 2475w via HDMI cable).
Given the monitor will do 1920*1200 I rather fancied trying one of the Freesat HD channels on the monitor.
But nope, they won't work. Just a blank screen on the monitor, put the green light stays on, so it is getting some sort of signal.
The Technisat box has modes for 576p, 720p and 1080i. Changing these doesn't make any difference. But I can watch BBC HD in 576i which defeats the purpose
The TV display does not dectivate even when the HDFS output is switched to HDMI from scart
The only thing left to try that I can see is unplugging the TV (scart) when switching to HD, so I'll try this later.
Has anyone else watched a Freeview/Freesat HD channel through a monitor?
I will have a HD TV eventually, but for the occasional program the monitor would do the job well especially as it has an IPS panel

Is the monitor HDCP compliant?
Thanks. That wasn't something I'd even thought of!Seems it is though:-

Does the monitor support 1920 x 1080 at 50Hz as many older PC monitors will only accept it at 60Hz. The HD broadcasts are at 1080/50i (the 'i' standing for interlaced) which would be deinterlaced by either the box itself or at the monitor to display at 1080/50p.
If the monitor only accepts 60Hz @ 1080 I'll save you the hassle of searching for an adaptor that will convert 50Hz to 60Hz...don't bother. The result will be a juddery picture even if you used something like a Lumagen HDQ video processor (probably cost more than the monitor anyway, even used).

According to the bumph the vertical frequency range is 48 to 85hz.If the monitor only accepts 60Hz @ 1080 I'll save you the hassle of searching for an adaptor that will convert 50Hz to 60Hz...don't bother. It is strange how normal channels work OK (in 576i)
I have tried disconnecting the SCART table too which didn't make any difference, although I turned the receiver off inbetween but didn't unplug it from the mains (not sure if that would make any difference).
The next test is taking the box, complete with something recorded on USB stick from the BBC HD channel, to see if it will playback on the girlfriends TV (a normal HDTV....
