RAM help for beginner

Probably a stupid question, but.

I have a 256mb DDR, 333, CL2.5 in at the moment.

Would a DDR2 667(5) work, although there is a cut out slot, that is 2ish mm out of line, i was wondering if i widened the slot, to fit, would it work,
or do some damage.

After you finished spitting coffee all over your screen, any advice appreciated.

DDR2 is not compatible with DDR(1).
