Good of him to do that really, I wonder how many do though without mentioning it.. Or, if many do want to but don't have a way of paying it back to them. His suggestion about opting out of getting it seems a good idea really..

Good for him, and although I love the charity he says it will go to, I can't help help thinking it would be better going to one of them that helps the elderly that can't afford it....?

As I mentioned in another thread. A few years ago I was talking to a homeless guy and he told me that stringfellow had given him £20 without him even asking for it. And no he did not have to dance for it. Oh for the record I gave the homeless guy a cigarette

Any publicity is good publicity and that is good publicity.

Nice of him to do it too.

Not wishing to be cynical or anything, but a nice bit of nationwide publicity, for what is in effect a few quid.

If his motive was genuine, fair play to him.....thumbup

Publicity stunt...

You don't receive the allowance unless you CLAIM it...

If he feels so strongly about it, why did he claim it in the first place...?

The article says - paid automatically to those eligible
Whereas the government website says you will be paid it automatically every year once you have applied for it.

Some people get it automatically.

My Grandma receives it, and she never applied for it or even wanted it.

So he's bleating on about being a millionaire and not needing it, but then only giving four grand (max, he probably got less than the £400 maximum) to charity. Tight git, give more if your going to get on your high horse and shout from the rooftops how amazingly kind you are to give just four grand away.

My boss at work is quite well off and he said he automatically received it too without applying.

didnt the queens estate try to apply for it?

its as stupid as the pregnancy grants although i suppose you have to weigh up the cost of administering a means tested scheme vs giving it to all.
