Been to both, as you may know Mauritius is one island with lots of expensive luxury hotels whereas Seychelles is generally one very expensive luxury hotel on each island if you just want seclusion sperm then the latter is the best !

We weren't that keen on Mauritius as the locals were not as friendly as those we met in SA (Sun City, Kruger etc)
& we weren't expecting the poverty just outside the Hotels.
Both of us took ill but only for a couple of days each.

The biggest shock was the roads; we had a very dangerous drive from the Airport to the Hotel. Big drop off's at the edge into the (Sugar Cane??) fields, people, kids, animals etc all over the place & our (unfriendly) driver not slowing down & just swerving around them. Saw a Motorcyclist that had crashed through someone’s back window & to round it off a Typhoon was brewing just as we took off. It was a great escape !

All in all not a bad place as others wouldn’t have what we had (apart from the road issues), the beaches were great but I wouldn't rush back.

My brother got married in Mauritius at the beginning of the year and I thought it was a nice place, however we didn't stray far from the resort. Be careful where you pick though as their first choice was under the approach for the airport and got a bit noisy!

We saw a few weddings at the hotel we stayed in for our honeymoon in Mauritius. Some seemed lovely, some seemed quite sad and cheesy - this is at the same hotel.

The cheesy one involved rubbish crackly robbie williams being played while the bride/groom walked through the swimming pool (full of sunbathers) to a gazebo in the middle of the pool which had flowers etc. They went through some sort of ceremony and then sat there for a while and had a drink.

The other one had a few guests (probably about 8 people), had a ceremony somewhere on the beach I think, and had a fun sounding dinner in the hotel.

Be careful with your planning and think about what is most important to you.

How many people are you planning on taking?

We looked at more far-flung destinations such as Mauritius, Hawaii, Barbados, etc.

However, wanting to take a few members of family draws problems.

1) They have to make it their holiday, negating their own one in a lot of cases
2) These places ain't cheap for them to go
3) Most crucially, family would be there for the wedding and you are then sharing your honeymoon with them aswell...

We chose somewhere in Europe that people could either go to for a few days, then fly back home, or stay for a fortnight. We then moved to another resort after a week for a 'honeymoon'

Of course, if you're planning to get married with only you and the OH present, or you're completely minted, this isn't an issue biggrin

More the merry for me, one catch they have to pay for themselves....

We plan to have a get together over here so the older generation can have a day out.

I don't want to get married here, simply down to the weather. That factor alone is driving me out of the country! A tropical down pour I can cope with, driving cold rain nono

Honeymoon = We plan to have a week in the seychelles with close family and friends, then WE will fly onto the Maldives for a further week.

Thats the idea anyway smile

I went on honeymoon to St Lucia and saw plenty of weddings there (was an original plan of ours to get married there). All of them just didn't seem special enough in my opinion, lots of onlookers and just seemed like another event to do while on holiday, diving, sailing, wedding etc...

A bit glad I didn't do it there (though saying that I did it in Greece, so still out of the UK - but we had a small 350 reception and wedding... eeek!)

If you aren't too bothered about it being that special then go for it, it just seems a bit too processional for my liking.
