or perhaps not. I'm sure we get the odd snow induced accident in this country, but have yet to see anything quite on this scale though....

That HAS to be somewhere down south.. they just got a lot of snow which they are ill prepared to handle.

Besides, looks like ice. I got 16 inches of snow last night and the road here are clear and fine.

Yes but didn't they get a 2-3 foot snow dump as opposed to 2-3 inches like we did. Let's see how long it takes them to reopen compared to our well managed Heathrow that of course managed back in 87 when we had loads and loads of snow.

That is Spokane in Washington where my wife was born. She knows that hill and says the hospital is at the top of it. Is like that every year apparently.

It really depends where you are over here. They did close the airports around NY City last night but that was mainly down to near zero visibility and the snow coming down faster than they could clear it (2-3 inches per hour). Airports are open now, roads are fine, etc. About 10-15 minutes south of me they got 29 inches apparently.

Meanwhile, I was in Atlanta once when about 4 inches fell and you'd think it was armageddon.

Just heard on TV, we supposedly got 21 inches.. maybe I ought to measure it.

I liked the black car at about 1:00 in who kept the power on did not stamp on the brakes and made it down with out too much drama.

one smart cookie who did not default too hit the brakes and close eyes.

'87 was barely a year after BAA was privatised, so not surprising it coped better back then.... and since '06 it's been owned by the Spanish, and things have gone downhill hugely since then at LHR.

Ah, that well known phrase "The snow in Spain falls mainly on other countries' airports"...?

Hmmm, he looked to have got lucky to be honest.

There's a white pickup at 1:30 or so who makes it down under control despite having a large black pickup spinning out of control behind him and having to negotiate an oncoming car and get around the logjam near the bottom.

Obviously he was the one with proper winter tyres wink

Yes, I think he or she was letting off the brakes occasionally, just enough to gain steerage and aim the car in the right general direction. Kept a cool head on.

It looked more like he/she was totally out of control and running on a heavy dose of luck to me!

There was some bloody cool headed driving there, about the same ratio to panic reactions i see in the UK IE: rather low wink
But then ice is a totaly differant animal to snow, as a police driver once told me, "snow has a finite amount of grip, ice has an infinite amount of slip" laugh

So it starts off with a big car, then the cars get bigger, then a really big car comes along and to crown it all what looked like a grey car that needed to be articulated finally hoves into view bringing with it it's very own weather system. I guess that was filmed in America?

Considering the amount of metal they eventually made a very neat pile. Imagine the destruction on the inside as all those recently purchased burgers are tossed around like little ships at sea... which reminds me

"It's a helicopter, and it's coming this way. It's flying something behind it, I can't quite make it out, it's a large banner and it says, uh - Happy... Thaaaaanksss... giving! ... From ... W ... K ... R... P!! No parachutes yet. Can't be skydivers... I can't tell just yet what they are, but - Oh my God, Johnny, they're turkeys!! Johnny, can you get this? Oh, they're plunging to the earth right in front of our eyes! One just went through the windshield of a parked car! Oh, the humanity! The turkeys are hitting the ground like sacks of wet cement! Not since the Hindenburg tragedy has there been anything like this!"

Still one of the funniest things ever on US sitcoms.
