So the 'reformed due for release within 2 years inmates' have shown the worthiness of release in their prison rehab by their smashing-up and setting fire to their open prison.

They have wantonly destroyed their own gym and equipment as with other expensive facilities. Well feck'em, from now let them do press-ups in their cells.

IMO - do not replace these facilities, let them suffer without them or let inmates take it out on the perpetrators of these crimes.

But let's get back into the real world where I expect that there will soon be news of a new mega mllion re-fit of this prison.

The inmates should rebuild their holiday camp.

ETA OP you speak words of wisdom and I agree with you 100%.

Biggest problem used to be the inmates sneaking along the riverbank, over the bridge and into Tesco for booze. So hardly an institution which normally gave the locals sleepless nights as generally the inmates have too much to lose by misbehaviour.

The suggestion is that overcrowding elsewhere due to the Broon years of underfunding has caused unsuitable prisoners to be placed there instead of in more secure prisons.

I think the rioters were not standard open prison inmates, but those from more 'secure' prisons who were put in Ford because of full capacity in the types of prison they should have been in.

ETA. too late.

They are misguided souls who have made mistakes, not criminals, and they need rehabilitation, not punishment. Lock them up and treat them like animals, and they will behave like animals.

Or is it the other way round? scratchchin

I can't stop laughing, another debarcle the Coalition have inherited from Gormless Brown and his cronies. God give me strength, how much deeper does Gordon's pit become? Doesn't bother him though, his book sale will feather his nest.

The perpretrators will be returned to closed conditions and once rebuilt it will be filled with
new cat "D"s, which will be deemed suitiable for open conditions. These prisoners will push the bounderies to see what they can get away with. In doing this the shiny new institution will once again require some more building work. This will probably not be reported unless it can't be hidden like what happened today.

Good post, probably not details likely to be reported or liked 'by the PC brigade'

I wonder how the victims of the criminals feel? Not only have they suffered from the actions of the criminals but now through their taxes they have to fund the repairs of the holiday camp, ooops I mean prison.

If people want to be treated as human beings, behave like a human being, if people behave like morons, then they deserve to be treated as morons.

Let me guess what the prison service moron (fred pontin no doubt) who draws the short straw to defend this sham will pipe up with !
"It was a minority, in general, our clients (inmates) are model reformed useful members of society who had nothing to do with this senseless action.
We will conduct an internal enquiry to see where we went wrong, and decide on actions to improve the service we provide !!!"
I wager no one gets held accountable.
It will all be rebuilt using lottery money i dare say.
