Re child exploitation - I find it quite annoying that the media and politicans of late keep lumping everyone who is of indian / Pakistani descent into this one umbrella term of "asian men".

The fact they fear upsetting voters of Pakistani descent and hence use this umbrella term should be reconsidered in light of the fact that sikhs and hindus have a different value system to muslims (not saying worse or better -you can decide for yourself - I will just say different).

I hope everyone who has read these stories and seen the references to 'asian men' will note the quite big difference - the purpose of my post is to highlight that.

(I know I switched from country to religion there, but it made my point easier to put across).

I've always thought the use of 'Asian' in UK PC circles to mean Indians and Pakistanis was ridiculous. Clearly Asia is a massive place and the vast majority of 'Asians' are ethnic Chinese, not people from the sub-continent.

Hey Steve, i think the same too...

I'm pissed off with the media blaming Asians too. Why can they not pinpoint the culprits ie Mirpuris?

I thoroughly agree. It's just to avoid the P-word and the hope of being voted back in. But many other cultures in the region would be very insulted to be 'lumped in' in that way.

If you've ever called a Kiwi Australian, that's nothing compared to assuming a Japanese person is Chinese. Even among the Chinese there are many 'peoples'. And they can normally tell themselves apart on sight.

I am all for White, Black and Brown as description if the current media description seems so offensive to some. I would prefer it to be just Men or Women and do away with ethnicity completely. It will go a long way towards eradicating all these racial crap by implying everyone is equal to the Law!

I've worked with a lot of Korean guys and again, they are at great pains to be distinguised - for obvious historical reasons - from both the Chinese and Japanese. (In my (admittedly limited) experience, most Koreans are visually distinguishable anyway.)

The whole 'asian' handle is political correctness at its most absurd. Although in a way, no more daft than having a single description of 'white' which is supposed to cover much of the rest of the world - anyone think a Swede looks remotely like someone from Eire?!

Do you think that Pakistani men are justified to be upset about this? Especially those who would never dream of doing anything as such? Or is this a Problem the Pakistani community should deal with and not the law? Is it fair to say that white people should deal with the whole 'chav' problem?

and hence use this umbrella term should be reconsidered in light of the fact that sikhs and hindus have a different value system to muslims

Do they really? Last time i checked all the naughty things Muslims do, Sikhs and Hindus do as well apart from terrorism in the western world but one can always argue that if Sikhs and Hindus were had their religion scrutinised like Muslims (ie - Guru Insulted) are what would their reaction be? I know that after the 'Bhesti' demo in Birmingham a few years ago the whole freedom of speech thing came up and i remember windows being smashed and some copper being alegedly beaten up for doing his job however one could also argue they were extremists. How about if uncle Sam started invading and bombing Punjab how whould the Sikh reaction be then? If Britain joined in would the Sikhs in the army still fight against Punjab or will they leave in droves? I know that even upto this day there are plenty of Udham Singh and Bhagat Singh songs in various albums talking about how they will never forget, get revenge, etc. Are these guys extremists? Who knows but if they were Muslims they would be right?

I hope everyone who has read these stories and seen the references to 'asian men' will note the quite big difference - the purpose of my post is to highlight that.

Hence why i'm trying to highlight it further by pointing the finger at certain Mirpuri individuals. If we are going down the tree we might as well not stop at the Pakistani umbrella dont you think?
