Two sides to the story though....

On one hand, Ryanair allegedly charging for excess hand luggage for one passenger which could be seen as mean, but then the fight probably only cost a few Euros per student in Jan anyway... and you pay your money and take your choices.

On the other hand, why should 66 passengers and x staff put up with 100 abusive students who kicked off? They have a right to a quiet flight without disruption.

Anyway, it's the captains decision to offload, regardless of airline.

Ryanair have a baggage policy. Its strict but you know this when you book. Read the rules before you book a flight. If you don't like it, fly with someone else. What these plebs did was book a flight then made up their own rules and then refused to pay.
Last week, I flew with easyjet and didnt pay for hold baggage. As it turned out, I had to bring a larger bag on the day so it had to get checked in. They charged me £20 as per their policy and I paid it without stirring up a fight for the people of the world etc

While I'm not Ryanair's biggest fan, they were right in this case. fk 'em off the plane.

We got stung by their baggage policy once. We had paid for extra baggage, however we did not realise that extra baggage does not mean extra weight just that you can spread the weight amongst more bags. We paid for the extra weight as did many others that were caught out.

Last and only time I have flown or will ever fly with those scumbags.

The seats were almost as bad as those on the underground, could not believe the advertising on the back of the seats in front, thought the adverts openly slagging off other airlines were cheap and crass.

Hate the company, hate the man in charge. Pikey caravans with wings.

So you didn't read the Terms & Conditions?

Flown with them twice, never had a problem.

If you have the ability to read you'll be ok. If you are someone who doesn't have time to look at the terms and conditions of the contract you are entering into when purchasing a ticket, who do you think is to blame?

It's about time some of the "real" airlines started doing this.

As a fairly frequent flyer, I am regularly pissed of while the plane is late for departure because people are still trying to cram small wheelie suitcases into the overhead storage.

Problem is, don't they want passengers to carry hand luggage?

Hold bags take time and cost the airline either side in handling charges, and in lost baggage. Better to get the short haul traveller to carry their own? Maybe?

Only issue I had with this is by the sounds of it they made all the students say back, even the ones who were most likely looking at their trainers sheepishly hoping their ‘mates’ would STFU so that they could all get home.

But even then iirc it was the Rozzers who decided all the students should stay back.

Dislike RyanAir and their ilk with a passion but they are often a means to an end, although I wouldn’t ever fly more than 4 hours with them, and that’s pushing it...

I flew with them to see a mate in Granada two years ago from Liverpool. The flight was dead on time and the plane was brand spanking new - no complaints there at all.

The downsides...
I made the mistake of buying a couple of drinks on board - how much!!!? yikes Then (as someone else mentioned) the advertising and lotto crap - coming over the speakers at full volume so you couldn't even get a rest when wearing earplugs. Even the cabin crew looked embarrassed about it. Very funny (although this was a plus point was some tt getting on the plane late (last person on) and kicking off because he had a huge amount of hand luggage and all of the overhead stowage was full of coats (it was the middle of winter)).

But the crowning acheivement - they managed to get a 90 year old Spanish granny on our plane to Liverpool. She was meant to be on the Girona flight rolleyes Error discovered somewhere over the Bay of Biscay. I suspect someone might have lost their job for that one.

To be honest it was a cheap and nasty experience and - as someone above said - horrible company, that bloke O'Leary is dreadful - I hate his "fk off, the flights are cheap", in your face attitude. The likes of Jet2 and Easyjet seem to function quite well without his "fk you!" approach to business. I'd rather spend the extra money and go with a reputable carrier.

Doubt you'll have any problems then, do Ryanair fly anywhere for more than 4 hours?

Really don't get it, Ryanair is Ryanair, sometimes stupid people just don't bother reading what their buying, if you don't like it, don't buy it. These passengers should/must have known their rules on cabin baggage, you can't just kick off because you'd rather not pay something you didn't bother to check.

Yes Ryanair might have some questionable practices but they're not exactly a secret are they? If you don't like it, pay more and fly with someone else. It continually amazes me when I fly with them or indeed Easyjet how ignorant people are when flying. Yes you've got to pay for baggage, no you can't choose a seat, yes its expensive to buy food with them, yes they'll add extras onto your basic flight cost and my personal favourite, you might pay more for speedy boarding but you'll still get bunged on the same bus with everyone else to get to the plane at the same time.

At least it's not purely a UK problem with regards to students dumbing down and not having the ability to read smile

Flying on Ryanair is never a pleasant experience, it's something to be endured if there's no alternative.

But this bunch of jokers deserved what they got; thrown off.

What a bunch of whingers!
There are no secrets before you fly Ryanair. If you get stung for anything, its because YOU didn't read the paperwork. Drinks too expensive? No st sherlock but you didnt pay an extra £50 to fly with BA so you could get a free drink did you? The seats had crass signs on them? Is that all you got to complain about?

Ryanair (and Easyjet) are flying buses. Thats it. Get perspective. You pay bugger all. So just sit down and shut the fk up.

Everyone knows someone whos had an oh so terrible experience with Ryanair but the vast majority have no probs at all. Sadly for some of you, Ryanair have the best punctuality and least baggage loss of all airlines in Europe. Now I dont know about you but I'll take an ontime flight and my bags being at the other end than the distress of a flippin ugly sticker or pricey drink thanks.

Do you really want to go back to the old days when it was just the cosy big airlines ripping everyone off? Because that was better, wasn't it. "We paid £800 for two tickets to Rome and we got an allocated seat each, a drink and some food"

I know many people caught out by this, it's a deliberate rip-off.
You have to read the T&Cs VERY carefully, and repeatedly, and then in an interpretation that goes against basic common sense to understand that you are paying for checking in multiple bags instead of one bag with the same weight.

Indeed with bags weighing about 5kg you could pay for four completely empty bags. It's nonsensical and tells us that Ryanair are trying to con people. I'm not surprised people are complaining and frankly regular non 'budget' airlines are looking a lot more fun to be on right now.

Flown RA to Toulon many times. The formula is simple:

1. Book as far in advance as possible and NEVER try and change your booking after purchase.

2. On no account take hold luggage (apart from the cost you'll queue for ha;f an hour at bag drop)

3. Do not ask for any extra services (wheel chairs etc)

4. Print your boarding pass out

5. Ignore Priority Boarding

6. Buy sandwich/bagette mineral water etc at Pret in airport

7. As soon as safety briefing is over - insert iPod ear phones

8. Eat Pret sandwich at 30,000 ft

8. At destination exit aircraft

It works.

Just noticed this earlier, and with regards to hand luggage it does seem to be getting daft.
On a flight in the states a couple days ago I noticed among others with their questionably large wheelie cases, a guy a few places ahead in the queue with 1 very large wheelie case, 1 very large backpack, and a massive carrier bag, and with it being a fully packed flight, several people after boarding having to get their wheelie cases into the hold.
For a good few years it had been fairly strict with one piece of hand luggage within 'these' dimensions. Has this gone out the window, or do some people just assume so?
