But from what I've read, its not really a Vincent....he admits himself he has replaced so much of it with different parts to make it do the job he wanted it to.
Good luck to him.
Simon, will you be at the auction?
It looks like the bones of the thing are still Vincent. It seems that as long as it has the correct numbers it'll still be worth a fortune. They didn't make many of the Black Prince/Knights (the enclosed tourers) at all and the last one I saw for sale had a £60k price tag (from memory). I can never remember which was the Black Shadow engined one and which the standard Rapide though! You can buy a complete Vincent new from the owners club spares scheme. They built one from new spares recently as a showcase, so if someone wanted the original bits (and had deep enough pockets!) it wouldn't be a problem. I suspect that no matter how much was replaced, those all important numbers would remain (new broom Trigger?!)Good luck to him.

The Vincent lot are pretty keen on modifying their bikes too. When we went on that owners club thing around Newcastle last year several of them were fitted with disk brakes and 'leccy starts!
I would think it'll either be bought by a very rich investor who will stick all the original bodywork back on it and get it back to original, a museum (like the National Motorcycle Museum) to display as a high miles Vincent or (hopefully) someone that just wants to use it as is!
I hadn't planned to go to the auction. Think it's Easter weekend isn't it? My brother will no doubt be going as it's at their big show, but we normally have a big family gathering over Easter
You off to Stafford?

I've seen the bike and rider many times over the years, he lives about 15 miles from me.
BN, do you know the pub that's around your neck of the woods that is involved in Vincent stuff? I can't remember the name of it, think it starts with an A. Run by a bloke called Mick (who's a scarey looking fker but a really nice lad), got a couple of bikes in the bar and is next door to a rock and roll type ballroom?Stayed there last year but I can't remember the name of it and it's doing my head in!

Stayed there last year but I can't remember the name of it and it's doing my head in!
Only One I know is the Wagon just outside of Ponteland.Stayed there last year but I can't remember the name of it and it's doing my head in!
I don't venture into Newcastle much so it could be around that area.

As for whether a modern bike would do 700k miles, it comes down to the old Trigger's broom thing again I'm afraid! I'm sure you could get a modern bike to do that, but how much you'd have to replace in its lifetime would be ... lots!
Vincents are a pretty 'agricultural' beast. I know that when the old man sold his Comet (the single cylinder version) a few years ago and bought another Velocette Venom, said that when you take the timing chests off the Venom it's like working on a watch having been working on a tractor! To be fair though, there aren't many 65 year old bikes that will still cruise on todays motorways happily for hours on end like a Vincent twin

If I'm in the area I'll defiantly go.You off to Stafford?
And I really hope that whoever ends up with the bike uses it and doesn't restore it, but from what your saying that sounds unlikely.
After riding for years with that tiny front drum I wonder how many times he stood on it's nose getting used to his new disc braking
