Just thought id share an amusing tale of misfortune, I say amusing but I dont recall laughing once throughout it all until I look back on it.

The story begins one dark morning on my way to work on the motorway carefully filtering through traffic until someone decides to jump lanes as im passing him. I collide with him, crush my fingers on my brake lever into his door, lock the front and go down. As I go down I body check the rear bumper of a Highways Agency patrol car thats stationary. Luckily I just missed his towbar but damaged my ribs and spleen. Ambulance gets wrong location arrives 45 mins later.

Bike is wrecked all down one side with over £2500 worth of damage (09 Z750 worth £4k ). Bike gets recovered to dealer and nothing else heard. Gets a call about 4 weeks later, your bikes ready to collect all fixed. At this point im gutted as I didnt want it back and hoped it would be written off. Anyways collected it, went for a ride and immediatley knew it wasnt right so took it back and they confirmed the bars were bent and replaced then.

So picks the bike back up last saturday, took it straight home and put it in the garage looking like a brand new bike. I usually commute on the bike but have just bought a new car so I used that on Monday and took the bike on Tuesday. Left home in damp conditions but about 7DegC and no sign of frost .............. until the last bend on the lane near work.

For some reason a stretch of about 10 yards had frozen around the edge of a puddle halfway through a slightly tight bend and was completely invisible. Even with me being a riding god smilethere was no catching this one and correcting it, the bike slipped, grabbed, launched me skyward then attacked a thorn bush and barb wire fence with me hurtling after it. Luckily the car coming the opposite way stopped in time and the van I'd just overtaken on the straight stopped just before the black ice.

Luckily (again) I limped away with just a sore hip and bruised shoulder and then slipped and fell whilst looking at what had caused me to come off. Managed to get the bike to work and parked it up whilst my boss had a good chuckle at how bikes are deathtraps and are dangerous.

Normally this is where the story would end but oh no just to rub salt into the wound, some dozy tt then reverse's without looking and knocks the bike over and drags it down the kerb causing even more damage. Long story short I explained it had a bit of damage but not what it had now and we agree on a cash payout for the items he's just scratched.

So my missus has banned me from riding bikes on the road, im only allowed on track now and If I dont sell this one now she's going to honestly give it away as she would rather lose 3K than me.

As i said in the title things can only get better smile

p.s. oh yeah almost forgot the new car broke down yesterday as well so I didnt get from work till 11pm

If you saw the bike you would think it had had a very low speed put down. Luckily the exhaust and R&G's saved everything and it landed on grass into a nice little bush. About £500 and you would never be able to tell it had been dropped wink

Christ. I had a little chuckle.. What are the chances of that.

Reinforces my point that I'd rather solely ride on the track - I don't even have my bike license yet!

My only comments are.

If you'd stopped riding in st weather then none of this would've happened and you'd have a trackbike and a roadbike sorted.

Now what're you going to do on sunny Sundays between April and September?

That is seriously unlucky, commiserations!

At least you're not too banged up I suppose; hope you and the bike (and the car) feel better soon smile

For once I agree with Loon, what were you thinking you bloody idiot?!!

Glad you're ok though, balls to the missus, I suggest you grow a pair! If my missus said no more bikes she'd be taking the high road, does yours have a very large thumb you're hiding under wink

biggrin

Not married yet, but told my gf of 5 yrs that I've been riding bikes longer than I've known her, and that I will never ever ever stop riding, even if I get into an accident, and while she doesn't love the fact that I ride she respects it. Of course if I had just been in the OP's situation things might be a bit different and the missus might start to withhold something to me thats even more important than riding...;) Then I'd sell the bike and get an Atom or something in about as much time as it takes the bike to hit 60mph!

I said pretty much the same to my wife, and she accepts it, it's not me she worries about, it's the person who pulls out on me or the one who's not paying attention she's most afraid of.
