Anyone know about La Manga Club in Spain please?
Discussion
We are heading out to Spain in the first week of July. So far we have flights to Alicante, but no accommodation booked.
We are thinking that La Manga club would be a good bet, as it has a kids club for our 2 wee monsters (2 1/2, and 5 years). This actually means it would be a relaxing holiday for EVERYONE
Does anyone know if we should be looking for a specific villa location for proximity to facilities (and the kids club)?
Cheers

We stayed there last May. The complex is divided into 'villages' and as far as I could make out, each village had its own pool area with cafe/bar close by. There were also central facilities and shopping arcade type things.
TBH, it wasn't our scene, a bit Little England ish, with British tv being piped in and a lot of the staff being brits. You really need a car to get around altho I think at peak season there is a bus service which chunters around.
If you're thinking of golfing, the gents liked the North and South courses but didn't enjoy the West anywhere near as much.
Town nearby - can't remember its name - is dead -a lot of restaurants have closed down tho there is a wine shop, not much else.

Not a great deal to do around the place (outside La Manga). I stayed not far away in a place called Roda (great golf).
There is a nice hotel in La Managa.
As someone else stated, it's very English. Good if you are English, not so good for others. I remember quite a few "gangster" types around the place\\

Thanks for the input all.
For this week the most important thing to us is nice villas, decent pool, restaurant/ bar on site being easy to walk to, and kids club. For once, we aren't planning on leaving the complex at all.
I couldn't care much about who else is staying in the resort, but a few other english speaking kids would make it easier for our 2.
Has anyone who has been, know of specific areas of the resort that might suit us best?

We stay at La Manga one week every year and stay at the La Quinta Club which has it's own pool (with swim up bar ) and restaurant for breakfast and lunch but dinner only on certain evenings. This is in the centre of the complex and just a short walk from the large central pool area and tennis courts although I'm not sure where the Kids club is.
All of the various developments are of a different character but all seem to be good and well maintained. The car is a necessity but if you pick a more central spot you do have more options within walking distance.
We used to take the kids when they were younger, 12 and 14, and they loved the opportunity to thrash the old man on the golf course. The golf courses are good (love the West Course)and there are a variety of restaurants around, Chinese, italian, Asian etc, and of course some are better than others. As mentioned previously it is a bit of an English bubble but I have played golf with plenty of other Europeans.
Cartagena is about 20 minutes drive away and is quite pleasant around the harbour and just into town on the pedestrian thoroughfare. La Manga Strip is worth the petrol IMHO although some of the closer towns/villages have markets if that is of interest. Generally my week is taken up with golf, crashing by the pool and eating.

Hello,
Back in November 2008 the Reservations team at Select Resorts created a III part blog titled 'A Journey through La Manga Club'.
You can find it here: http://blog.selectresortsholidays.com/?p=249
Although it is a couple of years old the blog article still gives a great description of all of the villages/communities in the La Manga Club Resort and in some cases highlights their proximity to the many resort facilities.
I hope this article helps you to identify what area of the resort would suit you and your family best and should you require any more information then please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Kind Regards

Thanks for pointing that out, it looks like a re-direct was not added when we changed our website recently.
The issue has now been fixed and you should be able to see part II and III through the same link.
If you are interested in specific La Manga Club Villas then we have a great selection in all of the communities on our website.
Happy Holiday Hunting!!

Hi Fraser, if your looking for a relaxing family holiday then I can defenitely recommend La Manga Club. There's plenty to keep you occupied on the resort and if you fancy exploring out and about then Cartagena is worth a vist and there's a water park in Murcia for the kids which is approx 45 mins away.Dining out on the resort can be a bit pricey. We normally have breakfast and lunch in the villa and eat out in the evening (the Si Bar serves good value food and as far as I know if your there between 5pm - 7pm the kids eat free).
Our villa is in the Los Molinos Community with 2 balconies overlooking the pool/restaurant/bar .Being a fellow Pistonheader I could offer you a good deal for the start of July but wont be offended if you decline the offer. There's plenty to pick from to suit every budget.Good luck and hope you have a nice time.

Hi Trev, it sounds lovely! Around how many minutes walk is it to the childrens club please? The whole La Manga complex looks huge on a map, so its hard to put any sense of scale to each of the communities. If you want to keep your boys amused for an afternoon take them to see The Guns of Cartegena

Its an old military base that was abandoned many years ago, it well worth a visit just to have a wander round, I've been a couple of times.
They are pretty big

Hi Fraser , I would say roughly from Los Molinos to the kids club would roughly take you 20 minutes with the kids.By car you are looking at 2 minutes. One other good thing about the Los Molinos pool is it's fenced off and only accessible with your own key to the people who are staying there. It also has a seperate toddlers paddling pool as well.
