Myself and MrsSpdpug98 are heading up to London on Sunday, the intention at the moment is to drive in and park up centrally as we will be watching a film in Leicester Square

Can anyone recommend a place to park centrally (cheap – if it exists) or should we be looking at parking outside and getting the tube in – we will be heading up from the Southampton/Portsmouth area

Lots of streets are free on a Sunday. Where are you planning on going to?
We will be looking to park as close as possible to Leicester Square, we need to be there by 10.30/10.45 in the morning

Map here: http://www.lbhf.gov.uk/Images/CPZ%20borough%20map_... shows the parking zones near Hammersmith from where you can get the Piccadilly Line to the centre.

Single yellows only of course. Double yellows still apply.

That sounds like it could be a plan, are they free all day or limited time

Often park up in the west end. Weekday evenings, dip into the central zone after half six, drive up shaftesbury avenue, hang a left into wardour street. Plenty of meters here and nearby that are free after 6.30. Park up and stroll to Leicester square. Same at the weekend, just takes a bit of planning.

I do this regularly and the singles are free all day. You need to check the road signs though as there are a number of places that look like they should be free but aren't. If you want to be fairly near Leicester Square then I normally park on Tottenham Court Road or one of the back roads near by. Best bet is if there's lots of other cars parked up on them then you should be good to go.

If you want to consider the "park and tube" option then if you are coming up the M3 the Old Deer Park car park in Richmond is very convenient.

Parking on South Carriage Way Drive (turn right off of Exhibition Road immediately after entering Hyde Park) used to be free, don't know if it still is or if it is now metered. 5 minute walk to Knightsbridge Tube station.

Other option that I used to use was the NCP under Hype Park which you get to from the Northbound carriage way of Park Lane. Then you exit and get on the tube at Marble Arch.

Don't know the cost of NCP Hype Park on a Sunday but I'm sure the rates will be somewhere on Google.

There are often spaces along Saville Row at that time on a Sunday

Thanks for all the suggestions, the plan now is to drive in and try to park up somewhere around Wardour Street as looking online there seems to be a lot of 'free' meter parking in that area
