I've been tasked with organising a stag weekend in Berlin this July. There are 12 of us going at the moment, flights are booked and now I'm onto the accomodation. Finding it a bit difficult to decide whereabouts to base ourselves to be near the best of the nightlife. I was looking around Oranienburger Strasse, but I've just found this large apartment which would be ideal http://www.waytostay.com/propertydetails.aspx?regi... I just don't know how close it will be to the action. Any help would be appreciated, and if anyone knows of any suitable apartments, hotels or hostels please let me know.
Thanks!

Berlin is a great place. Hostels or apartments are the way forward but I guess much depends on your ages and whether you don't mind sharing rooms. I stayed at http://www.diefabrik.com a while back, a converted factory in Kreuzberg, which was clean, quirky and relatively central.

After a few visits I've come to conclusion that Berlin doesn't really have one specific centre or place to head to. Its more like lots of smaller centres spread around the place, which is actually much better as you can easily have a change of scene. Getting round Berlin is easy enough.

Berlin has awesome public transport and is a (relatively) small city. You're never far from anything.

Best bet for night life is the east side. I stayed in the West and was constantly travelling to the East for night life. Having said that i found the west better for 'day life' if you like.

As previously said public transport is very good, however not so good at 3am in the morning when its freezing cold and the underground is closed and your hotel is on the other side of the city.

www.diefabrik.com looks good, I'll add it to the shortlist! Any other recommendations, hotels, bars etc?

We use Westin Grand in Friedrichstrasse. Nice and central, clean, comfortable and well run, if somewhat characterless.

I've never see the point of staying in somewhere characterless unless its the only option.
