Sub cable...oops!
Discussion
Like a right tt, i've just realized the cable I've bought and laid under my new carpet may not be suitable for the Sub.
This is the original thread,it was regarding the Van Damme studio speaker cable after hearing great reviews.

Now, after just having a demo at Hifi gear in Glos,I've just realized the Sub is a totally different connection (single) compared to the cable (2x2.5) I've had laid.
Question is, to save ripping the carpet back up & buying a Sub cable, can I still use a suitable Sub plug on both ends of the excisting Van Damme 2x2.5 cable I've laid? This is the cable:

Assuming you're running the sub at line level (which I think it what you're wanting to do - i.e. for home cinema) then no, it's not the right type of cable - what you really want is an interconnect as these have screening around them.
If you're handy with a soldering iron you could try putting phono plugs on each end and try it, but chances are that due to the lack of screening you'll get hum and bangs and it wont be very sucessful. It'll probably be quite tricky to do as there's a lot of cable to solder into a phono plug designed for much smaller cross sectional wiring.
If you're running high level inputs into a sub (the best way for music) then what you have is ok, but you'd want two runs of it for stereo feeds into the sub.

If you ran that twin cable through a conduit (as recommended) you should be able to easily tie a length of string to one end, pull it out, pulling the string through, attach new line level cable to string and use string to pull it back through the conduit.
Obviously use a length of string longer than the conduit length!
Easy.
