I was travelling with my sister, she was driving, we where heading too homebase and mcdonalds, and a young child on a bike, he was probably about 7/8 years old, crossed the road without slowing down or looking and he came out behind a parked car, we where travelling at about 20mph the speed limit was 30 and the road has speed bumps.

He hit the front corner of the car, his head hitting the windscreen, luckily because we where going at 20mph it wasn't too bad.

but it still wasn't good, my sister was devastated and over come with shock, even though it wasn't her fault, i had to call 999 and it amazing how many people stop for no reason, when they have no way that they can help, there was even some idiots who tried to move him, so i was on the phone to the emergency services and shouting at people to not move him, luckily a nurse was driving by.

The boy had to be taken by air ambulance to Coventry for tests because it was a head injury, hopefully he will have no lasting damage, the police where brilliant, i was well impressed by how they went about there job and i have the up most respect for what they do.

but all i can say is please if you have children teach them the dangers of cycling in the road, and please urge them to wear a helmet.

this might not make any sense lol i just need to express my thoughts.

Sounds like you did what you were supposed to (i.e. it was a "slow" road, and you were going slow), but really, why was a 7 year old riding in traffic on it's own?

I hope your sister is ok? And obviously the kid. I have a 7 year old boy and he has a helmet, but they don't always do as they are told!

Sorry to hear this. Hope all is ok. Bad that the child not wearing a helmet - were they on their own too? Seems young.

You did all you could do in a bad situation, and prevent others from making it worse, so job done.

The accident was nothing to do with your lot, and the handling of the situation after means you've had a net "good" day

Hopefully everyone will come out of this ok.

It was in no way your sister's fault, please direct her to this thread if she doesn't believe you.

I really hate reading stuff like that. Imagine if she's had time to swerve and hit some parked car which then shunted the next one along and the kid just cycles off.

Do make sure your sister understands that these are the risks we take and it was in no way her fault. If the kid had run instead of cycled, he would have been lower down when she hit him and he could well have gone under the car instead of over.

Its also worth asking the Police what the situation is with damage to the car.

Normally they send a bill to the vehicle owner for an ambulance, although hopefully not for the air version.
