Tesla - anyone got one?
Discussion
They have sold 1500 in 4 years. There are roughly 68500000000 people in the world. so that's 0.0000002% of the population with experience of owning one. Assuming that on a motoring focussed site that the ratio is a bit better I still wouldn't hold my breath.
But hey, a lack of real world experience hasn't stopped any of us in the past.

Buy an Exige S 260.. Much better and much cheapness
I base this on nothing bar the fact you are paying an incredibly ridiculous amount of money on a car that is based on a £30,000 car for a gimmick that is electric cars. I haven't driven a tesla, and whilst cars such as the Exige S are still about and petrol prices are still below £3 a litre, I probably won't. I haven't seen Brands Hatch or Fuel stations offering a 16hr recharge point on trackdays yet, so in my eyes the car is too flawed for proper use. In a normal car, you have an impromptu hoon, realise you've over cooked the fuel and simply go to a petrol station and spend hard earned money to fill the government coffers. In a tesla you over cook it, realise you're out of range of going home and then promptly run out at the roadside, call the AA, get on the back of the AA truck and listen to the AA man laugh at how you can't fuel an electric car on smugness.
Buy the lotus, and invest the money saved in track tyres, fuel for the year, trackdays for the year and beer tokens.
Maybe in a few years when electrical infrastructure and the base technology is superior and rivals internal combustion, then have a look at the leccy cars.
But that's just my opinion. It's his money.

Thanks for those thoughts... HfromH he's not a Petrolhead, he's a modern technical gimmick type. So none of your perfectly well-thought out comments apply, unfortunately.
He test-drove a DB9 this morning (allegedly) and he's still going to get the Tesla.
His favorite previous car is an MX-5, so I thought there was some hope..............

Has he driven the Tesla yet? It might be that, having driven both the Tesla and the DB9, he has decided that the Tesla is better/a nicer drive <shock, gasp> - for him. He test-drove a DB9 this morning (allegedly) and he's still going to get the Tesla.

Sorry yes he has driven the Tesla for a few hours. He said it understeered - a lot - but he thought the acceleration more than made up for that. BTW he didn't know the term 'understeering' until recently

Thats probably just not understanding how to drive a mid engined car. Remember that Top Gear when they criticised the S2 Elise for understeering too much and then had the chassis engineer drive it round the track with Clarkson in the passenger seat, basically over steered and 4 wheel drifted the whole way round.
