We've all seen them.. We've probably all followed them..

Are those poles held down with anything or is it just the weight of them keeps them from sliding out the back of the lorry and into our faces?

Off Topic but,

There's a company who travel around by me that has a wicked slogan!

"They call us Viagra because we always offer a better erection!

Brilliant! laugh

Generally speaking the poles will want to slide forward, unless someone has been tinkering with the turbo.

That's not entirely reassuring.

I had thought that.. But it might be rainy and the ones they stack on top of the others might be greasy and they might hit a bump in the road and..

This isn't really working.

Saw an accident where this had happened about 5 years ago- scaffolding pole through the windscreen of a car at head height. Don't know how serious it was.

I'm guessing pretty serious. Unless it was a midget driving?

they are pretty heavy so it's very rare that one would bounce off the bed

it's the cleats you need to watch for, they are supposed to be placed in cages now but scaffolders like to be back at the yard before 4pm

I'm pretty sure that due to EU wide legislation the Poles would probably be used to wearing seatbelts, so I guess they would also be restrained that way while in the UK.

hehe

In answer to the OP the scaffold tubes are so heavy they'd never slide off the back, even if wet.

Are they? Hmm. What about those clamps they use to hold the poles together?* They're randomly chucked on the truck..

*Who else has this funny vision of 3 Polish Scaffolders all stood there clamped together? hehe

As said already, the clips are a different matter! hehe Although most scaffold lorries I have seen usually have containers for the clips and short lengths of tube at the front of the loading area on the lorry, directly behind the cab.

They're not stupid you know wink

Wait, I can put a whole container unit on tow, that weighs about 1200kilos, and have to strap it down because it bounces around and slides off, yet a couple of feet of steel pole are too heavy to do the same? hehe

Being a bit rural, I'm more worried about those big sugar beets bouncing out of the top of that overloaded and uncovered wagon as chummy goes over the inevitable potholes...
