Hi all,

Where do I stand on blocking in a member of the publics car on private land?

The land in question is for a commercial business but one particular person is using the car park to leave their car to gain free parking, being a busy area this is causing customers being unable to park.

Numerous requests have been left on the car window not to use the car park all of which have been ignored.

Before ending up on the wrong side of the law where would I stand on blocking the car in and refusing to move?

Sadly clamping, security access are not an option. Although looking into large very sticky warning notices are been looked in to as this one person is the thin end of the wedge.

Any advice?

Thanks for all the replies.

Very disappointed that despite repeated warnings we really are helpless to stop this nasty agressive man, who seems to find genuine pleasure in squaring up to a woman, from parking on private land.

So stickers it will have to be; do we have to give advanced warning? or just sticker him up??

In the middle of the access?

Streaky
Hahaha, sadly he's a commuter so arrives well before my hours start and access when he leaves is when many of our customers arrive and or leave.

I was a little misleading as I was asking the question in retrospect.

We boxed him in already, leaving a notice to tell him where the owner of the car was. He came to reception and was very unpleasant using his very large presence both physically and verbally to try to intimidate.

(little did he know that the car next to him which he was hoping would move was mine; cue sweaty palms for me as I imagined my Jag XKR getting damaged, esp as she's just had a paint job, but I digress)

He said he was calling the police and was told to "go ahead" I guess they weren't interested as they certainly didn't show, he then reversed back and forth towards the car blocking him.

Unfortunatly (for him) the owner of the car behind him was very busy indeed for the next 45 mins but the nasty bit of work still gave her verbal when she did move her car...........

I'm guessing he will be back as he seemed to thoroughly enjoy throwing his not inconsiderable weight about!!
albeit that he came up against the wrong woman.

If 'someone' let the air out of his tyres each time he parked there , he would soon stop parking there .

Perhaps one flat tyre to begin with , so that he could put his spare on just causing some inconvenience . After repeated parking , he might come back to more than one flat tyre .

Of course , you would have no idea who might have done this ; you have no duty of care over his car . The police could hardly do anything since no one would have seen anything ( whoever might have done it would need only a couple of seconds with a Schraeder key ) , and , anyway , no damage would have been done .

Once he had been inconvenienced a few times he would find somewhere else to park .
Isn't that illegal?

Thanks all.

I LOVE the idea of getting his home address from the DVLA, is it really that easy??

I'd be delighted to contact his employers but all we know is that he travels into town from the station.

The man is a bully, very agressive but sadly there are only women to deal with him and he has no hesitation in using his considerable bulk to invade personal space.

Still now having been stood up to hopefully he will just disappear.

The advice given has been sensible. Sticker up the car in a way which will seriously inconvenience this guy. If he is as intimidating when speaking to staff as has been stated then speak to the Police.
Yes that's really the way to go; although I'm also going to try to get his home adress and send him a strongly worded letter, once I get my Directorships and become more powerfully built winkbiggrin

Use a payg mobile and you can return the compliment as you will now have his number
I really don't want to wind the guy up I just don't want him in our car park or in my face.

I think stickers will cause him to kick off but will give that a go; although I wonder if a letter to his home address detailing our parking charges might just be the ticket, so to speak wink

Another thought is that you could put a sign up stating the daily fee for parking in your car park , say 10% more than the railway car park ( free to customers ) , stating that the fee is payable before leaving .

Then block his car in and only move when he has paid the fee . Until he pays he is not entitled to move it .
That's difficult as we have a chemist on our site so he could just pop in for a pack of plasters........... it would still be a lot cheaper than the pay and display next to us.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions, I'm going to go with the stickers, the DVLA and should push come to shove due to the nature of our work we're on fast alert (or whatever it's called) to the police station 200 yards from us.

Interesting to know that should we errect a tariff we can prevent him moving until he has paid!! another route forward as although this guy is the most prolific he's by no means the only one.

[quote=Manicminer]Not entirely serious but while he's away, drain the oil out of his sump. Refit sump plug and be sure to smear dirt around so it looks undisturbed.

Now I am really loving that idea but, sadly our car park is prestine so it would have to be straight into a residual trsy, amongst us ladies we have neither the know how or the ability!
