My wife parked in Sainsburys car park to shop there and had an issue with one of our kids which meant she went about 15 mins over their 3 hour limit. It's a huge store so it's easy to park that long especially with a 2 & 3 year old ("need a wee"; "I'm hungry"; "need a poo"; arrive at car..... "need a wee" from the other one)....

It has ANPR on the entrance and a sign up next to where your plate flashes up but tbh it's up so high up & to the left that I've never noticed it until my wife pointed it out to me once the other week. There are apparently some signs somewhere near some of the spaces but again, I've never noticed them as they are sparse at best.

The private company who manage the car park charge £70 if you go over your stay; there is no initial charge and no ticket required to park with any of the information on it.

My wife is annoyed with herself for missing the deadline; she says she feels she has to pay it as she doesn't want to get into any trouble or any CCJ's; is it a case of taking it on the chin?

£70 is bloody excessive isn't it!

Yes definitely not a council parking bay and it's run by a private parking company.

I have read on here before about ignoring it since she did not enter into any contract with them by taking a parking ticket on entrance to the car park.

She doesn't want to leave it if the fine gets even more expensive (increases over time if not paid in 14 days) - just makes for an expensive shopping trip to the sales!

If you're browsing a supermarket for 3 hours with children you deserve to be fined. Not for parking but for poor parenting. Is that some kind of day out? Go to a park, castle, museum, anywhere... But a supermarket? And you wonder why UK children grow up to be materialistic little stes? Did you spend 3hrs in McDonald's as a treat after that?

However I actually suspect you just fking parked in the supermarket car park, then fked off into town to do other things. So, you got gripped. The thug life just chose you. Ignore the fine and try to style it out, or play the whiny little bh and lie about spending oh so much money in the supermarket on beans and flower pots bit oh sorry I've lost the receipt. Have some self respect and either pay the fker or ignore it.

Write to Mr Sainsos my ring piece.
Spoken like the self righteous kind of coont that has no children and has probably never had any meaningful relationship with anything other than his right hand.

You didn't say I was wrong though. People usually start pulling others up on the way they say things when they can't actually contest the content.
Yes, you were spot on, it's uncanny.

I'm 42 stone and have never worked and have a Mercedes C65 AMG on mobility allowance; my wife who's 50 stone has a Hummer H3 on mobility for the kids but it does take up 3 child spaces which we feel bad about at times so we use the disabled spaces instead.

We tend to eat out most of the time as we don't fit in the kitchen of our council flat any longer; we are on the list for a 6 bed house with a pool. MacDonalds is very handy for all 3 meals a day or Burger King if we are giving the kids a treat and they can also sit and use their Ipads on the free wifi.

I think the idea that it takes 3 hours to complete your shopping in one supermarket is nonsense (yes, I have kids).
It was the run up to Christmas.

A new huge store.

Bumped into people she knows who chatted a little.

Had to do the entire Xmas shop on her own with 2 kids of 2.5 years and 3.5 years old.

Kids have a strop as they don't wish to be forced into a trolley; they want to walk (usually to be encouraged for development but difficult to then go back on what you usually try to do - confusing to a toddler, no)?

Kids need toilet.

Kids need feeding.

Kids need toilet (one says they don't need to).

Find somewhere to leave shopping.

Pay for shopping.

Get kids to car (one now needs a wee).

Wheel trolley and toe kids back up escalator into store.

Find somewhere to park trolley with "PAID FOR" goods where it won't get stolen.

Visit toilet.

Find trolley that member of staff has moved.

Back to car; load shopping first this time just in case!

Put kids in car; hear those magic words ......."I need a poo"

Get other child out; back to store.

Wait for toilet to be free.

Visit toilet.

Back to car.

Oh sh!t .....3 hrs 15 mins since I parked.

Trust me; it is easily done.

Anyone who cannot relate to the above clearly has no kids or any understanding of what life is like with them.

If you ignore the "I need a wee" or "I need a poo" it takes a lot longer clearing up the mess.

As adults we can miss a meal; is making your kids miss meals good parenting?

If you want honesty.

I have kids, I have taken both xmas shopping and can with honesty say that we have never overstayed a parking limit.

Do you think your wife would have acted differently, if the busy xmas time car park was pay and display as follows?:

1 Hour 50p
2 Hours 100p
3 Hours 200p
Over 3 Hours £20.00.

£20 isn't so bad, £70 is excessive.

Well, hats off to you and your exemplary time keeping and time management skills; you are clearly much better parents and all round human beings than we are.

Anyway, there has been nothing in the post yet so I would imagine that even the operators recognise that prior to Christmas in a huge and very busy store (that also had plenty of empty spaces in the car park), going a few minutes over on parking was not really crime of the year.

The store in question is very new, huge and the car park is also huge and underneath it so a bit of a trek. Lots of factors on that visit combined to make her stay longer than expected or wanted. She said that she would pay it if they write to ask her for it; she is not the sort of person to abuse parking, she never uses disabled bays, double yellows, she doesn't double park to nip in anywhere or anything like that and she would never normally overstay in a car park whether it be free for a duration or paid for.

Incidentally; the town is some 3 miles away which would be a long way to walk with 2 toddlers for the sake of some free parking. There are other shops near to the Sainsburys but too far and too dangerous to negotiate the busy dual carriageway roads with 2 toddlers.
