A genuine question, what are the rules or aren't there any? Just saw a policeman on the TV with a tattoo on the back of his head and on both sides of his neck, both arms were also covered. I always thought any tattoos would have to be hidden by sleeves, not sure why but it really doesn't look very professional, he appeared to be a body builder as well so more intimidating than anything.

Maybe one day, there'll be some way for business and other organisations to make information publicly available, and a simple way to search that kind of information from the comfort of your own home...

You should not have tattoos which could cause offence. Tattoos are not acceptable if they are particularly prominent, garish, offensive or undermine the dignity and authority of your role. Contact your chosen force if you have any particular concerns.
You're a dick, not like I was asking if anyone knew where I could buy a telly from is it? Most questions on this forum could probably be answered with Google, what's the point of having a forum if it's not for discussion?

I wonder if the rules were brought in after more started getting tattoos? Human rights to express yourself and all that. Seems a bit of a shame though, I would certainly think a giant, muscle bound, tattooed officer would intimidate a little old lady. As long as they do the job properly it doesn't really matter.

Oh, sorry. I thought you wanted to ask "a genuine question" because you genuinely wanted to know the answer.
Fair enough, I'm sure this site hasn't always been like this, it seems every time someone asks a question some smart arse tries to start an argument, why bother replying at all, surely you have something better to do?!

It's a big step up from having your arms covered to tattoos on your head and neck surely, I wonder if he checked with his bosses before he had it done.

Here's a weird one, this chap (I think his name was Rob) used to work at the same company as me as a driver in Manchester. I didn't know him personally but he used to be a lawyer, got into tattoos and jacked it in to become a lorry driver. Perfectly sane by all accounts just loved tattoos!
