Hello all I am looking for some advice. I sold a car in July 2016 to a trader. The Dvla are now trying to prosecute me for not having insurance for it in Novenber 2016. When the car was sold i filed out the yellow part of the V5 (the trade part) and sent it off to the Dvla. It is my understanding that once I have posted the form off I have no further legal responsibility. Am I right???

I didn't send the letter recorded delivery. I have sent loads in before this without any problem. I thought as soon as i posted the letter it was considered served on the DVLA. It seems to me if they send me something by post it is considered served. The stupid thing about all this is I am actually insured to drive it as I have a trade insurance policy. I have told them this and even given them my policy details. Their answer was "give us £50 instead of £100 and we will forget all about it"!! They will not accept it is their mistake.

The crazy thing is I have told them I have sold the car. I have told them I have a policy that would cover me whether I owned it or not. I have even supplied the policy number from my policy,so it can be checked. I still have to go to court next month. Northern Ireland is not an optionwobble

Well I went to court today. I registered my attendance and waited. I spoke with one of the ushers who seemed like a nice chap ,about what a complete waste of time this was. Lucky for me that I did! While he was going in and out of the court room he heard my name mentioned as not being there and they were going to proceed without me!!! He stepped in and told them I was outside. This then meant a meeting in a room with the DVLA prosecutor. Two hours later I was lead into an interview room. I made it clear to this lady that the DVLA don't know their arse from their elbow. I was then shown the laminated V5C and pointed to the grey final section of the document. This she tried telling me was their way of making me pay a fine for not notifying them of change of keeper. I explained to her that I had sent off the yellow part of the V5C to them and I had completed my part of the legal requirement. She tried to tell me the law had changed she tried all sorts of legal directives. I told her I was more than happy to walk into the court room and state my defence. That seemed to change everything, she drew two red lines across the page and accepted the truth. No further action!!!! Don't be bullied into being fooled!!soapboxbanditbanghead Thats three hours of my life I will never see again.!!!!

I am not going to claim expenses. I left a job that I was on and returned to it. I feel that this has wasted too much money already! At the end of the day it costs us all. I would never want to add to that. It just proves that we are all being ripped off by governmentfuriousfuriousmadmadmadmad agencies and no one is ever accountable for it
