My dash cam caught a wheel bouncing along the road after detaching itself off a twin axel trailer being towed by a twin cab 4x4.

It then got hit full on by a 40ton unit, so hard that it bounced across the dual carriage way hitting a oncoming car head on, smashing both the windscreen and roof, at closing speeds I guess well in excess of 100mph.

I have reported this to police but they appear to have no records of the incident, and will contact me if required ...

I also informed the road haulage company, via email to 4 directors and managers
They at very least have a damaged tractor unit that needs repairs

No one has replied

I have the reg of the idiot who caused this, + footage of the trailer on 3 wheels

My thoughts were it could have killed someone and at the very least wrote off their car
Could well have well caused serious injuries and a secondary RTA,
my eyes were firmly facing forward expecting more wheels or a trailer so I never checked rear view mirrors.
I cannot conceive of the road not being closed and a full recovery taking place
It's not Hollywood they won't have just kicked the glass out and carried on driving.

As a footnote
It's next to impossible to get hold of the police, 6 calls to 101, holding messages tell you to go online, yet you cannot email anyone, and when you get to speak to a controller it seems they have little concept of geography of the local trunk roads, so I have my doubts this information will ever be made available to the victims,
from their perspective a wheel has just fallen out of the sky. Now they have to take another hit in the wallet.

Should I just stick the footage on you-tube, then there might be a chance that someone who knows the victim can make sure they have all the information to hand to make a claim ?

What's correct way to help if the authorities aren't able/under resourced or CBA
What if the 4x4 car/driver isn't insured will the the victims be in a worse position?

Anyone with past experience please give me some pointers ?

Was the car on the A34 going south just before 4pm?

I wondered what the hell had hit that. When I passed the driver seemed OK, but the windscreen and roof were badly stoved in.
Thanks for the heads up, pleased to hear that they looked ok

Hopefully he might know someone here...

The footage shows the wheel going into orbit after impact
Think it may have cleared the trees on right hand side so luckily no further collateral damage
