I have been pulled 7 times over my number plates , most police have just let me go 4 said they will take me to court, 3 decided not to . The one taking me to court did all the checks and my number plates passed all tests , so he changed his tactic and is taking me to court because they don't have the post code or bs number but I don't see why I should advertise someone else's replacement number plate business on my car . As for the bs number i don't understand why some very small letters and numbers you can only read if you are a foot away have any relevance on identifying the car as they have checked the car from the reg that they can clearly see . I feel the police are only on the road to extract as much money from the public as possible

I see a few tinted plates around and wonder how long they will be driving before being pulled, surprised the police don't go for perverting the course of justice like they do with laser diffusers.
It's impossible for me to be perverting the course of justice , they can be seen from the required distance , speed cameras, anpr can see the plate

Why?

Because I like them , my bm is black with no orange peel the paint is like a mirror and the plates just Finnish it off , they are not like most tinted plates that you can't read clearly they are more like a off white

Why bother putting yourself through all this hassle just so your plates can look alittle darker? I just don't get it.... I couldn't be arsed.

If you give the Police an obvious reason to pull you, they will pull you, wasting your time, their time and in this case probably a courts time.

Just get a proper set of plates made up and this waste of time and energy will go away. Simple.
If everyone bowed down like you we would all become slaves , I believe people should live how they want as long as it's not causing harm to anyone else live and let live I say . People wonder why they live a crap life is because they are involved in everyone else's live to have time to sort their own out

Fair enough, but be prepared to get pulled over for your plates.

I don't know how tinted they are or how 'wrong' they look but given that (as an example) many motorbikes have undersized plates and never get pulled for it, then I'd suspect, after 7 pulls, there's something about yours that Plod really don't like?

If I was getting regularly pulled for something, I'd change it so it didn't happen again but, each to their own...
I'm not really bothered about them pulling me it's how rude they are thinking they can control me . It's about once a month they pull me for last 8 months . My plates don't look wrong just different

Scenario:

Your 2 year old daughter has just been hit by a car, she's now lying on the floor barely breathing and they're driving off.

You call police and they ask

"Whats the reg number of the veh making off sir?"

"um... i cant read it, its tinted!"
As I said in first comment my plates meet all legal standards apart from tiny postcode and tiny bs number so I don't understand your point

You don't understand my point? ... are you thick or just stupid?

What i'm saying is that some plates (not all!), like the one posted earlier in this thread are very difficult to read therefore police will not be too fond of them.

Post a picture of your plate so we can see then.
Are you thick or stupid as I have said before my number plates meet all legal standards apart from the postcode and bs number so that means my plates are legal in every shape or form apart from the post code and bs number do you understand now

Your choice then, personally I'd be very uncomfortable being pulled every month on the basis that sooner or later it'll end badly, so prefer to stay under the radar.
I don't do anything wrong to stay under the radar , don't speed as I hate stone chips and the police don't really bother me , they never spoil my day or make me feel angry unless they are holding other motorists up because they have forced me to stop where others can't pass but that's ok because they are police and no one can stop them , do what they want

Well done. I also have no debt AND I haven't been pulled over by the law monthly, so I much be way cleverer than you.

There's a really, really simple answer to this conundrum....

I'm intrigued though, why would you want it to look like you have a permanently dirty number plate?

Because I like it , it's as simple as that

Regarding whether it's legal or not, as it's a relatively new fad I imagine it will be legislated against in quick order.
Wonder how long before we are forced what hair cut to have

As I said I can't understand at all why I should advertise someone else's business on my car for no benefit as for the bs number that is only there to show it meets all standards , a cop checked everything and it did so why should it matter

Your comment makes no sense , the dvla who is not the law are forcing everyone to promote someone's business tyre companies don't force as you say I can sand the logo off if I want without getting dragged to court
