We all know the stock answer, but I have driven the following.
60mph limit, street lights at a junction/roundabout, so 60 repeaters on lamp posts.
40mph limit, street lights at junction, no repeaters on lamp posts which extended some way, but 40 repeaters (not full size numbers) after street lights.
Any other confusing contradictions?

I have been through many 40 and 50 mph road works with temporary, sandbag-held red-ringed signs, but the usual permanent NSL black diagonal signs are still in place.

Yep. Same here. Was chatting to my local friendly plod about the annoying temporary roadworks who advised me that the local 60 which was down to a red ringed temporary 30 because of construction, was actually still a 60 because there was 1 60 sign still on show. Thank You VERY Much Mr Officer!

Personally, I don't think the old adage of street lights = 30 is right anymore as there's plenty of 20 zones where you have a sign on entry but no reminder as you drive through.
20 zones are not the same as 20 limits wink
Do tell...
A 20mph zone is supposed to be self enforcing with traffic calming measures.

Limits use signage only, without the word "Zone" under it.

So technically if I can drive through a 20 'zone' at 60 then that's cool? But if it was a 20 limit then that's not cool.
Technically, speedometers do not have to be accurate below 40kph (about 24mph).
I have seen many black-ringed 20 signed zones.

No one is disputing the presence of 30mph signs or streetlights on all connecting roads. The repeaters however have indeed been removed since the google car passed that way.
If you haven't passed a sign for different limit (i.e. a number within a roundel or NSL) then it's still 30.
One has to wonder though if the removal of the repeaters is a cynical ploy to catch people who don't know any better.

What about this one?

Start of Gartshore Road leaving Kirkintilloch.

End of same road at Cumbernauld.

As there are no further signs since the one in the first picture, could you argue that the road you are joining is national speed limit? It isn't it's a 30mph limit and there are no signs on it to indicate that.
The applicable legislation is the RTRA 1984. See Sections 81 & 82. If there are no repeaters to say otherwise you cannot assume it is anything other than a 30.
You could certainly argue, but RTRA Section 85(5) suggests you would fail.
Were there any 30 limit signs which have also been removed? If so, it's yet another cynical ploy by the relevant traffic authority to catch the unwary.

Mollins Road appears to be 30 for its entire length.

North end - https://goo.gl/maps/588qF2JKogt
censored knows why: on the face of it there doesn't appear to be any logical reason why it can't be higher.

So this is 30mph once you arrive at the lit section?
In my view it would be better if the NSL repeater was before the first lamp post (perhaps it is), to avoid a precautionary slow down.

(I'll give you a clue - it's not).
Inevitably, there are nsl repeaters, so no, it’s not 30.
Exactly. Somewhat disingenuous of him to post an image from a distance where the NSL repeater is not clearly visible. rolleyes
