Our van just got pulled in dagenham the are police pulling all vans to see if they have no smoking signs displayed, over 10 police there, they moan about not enough resorces well my support for them has gone right out of the window, what a waste of resources, mind you they may get the proceeds of the fine £200, i am stunned

Wasn’t smoking in the van and 99% of the time I drive it, neither of us smoke, Yes I should have know the law and yes I have ordered stickers and yes I was wrong not getting stickers, but I cannot believe that all your here about is police not having enough resources to deal with all the crime yet then can set up an operation to catch vans without the no smoking stickers, that was my point, it is hardly the worst offence is it, no sticker £200 fine reduced to £150 if paid in 14 days, smoking in van £50 reduced to £30 if paid in 30 days, which is worst

I will leave this now, obviously, speed kills, get caught normally £100 fine, not having a sticker must cause the same deaths as mobile phones £200 fine, we are a small company with four people in total and we have only been trading two years my previous employment before starting this company was as a health and safety manager, when the legislation first came in I ensured that the company I worked for was compliant, to be honest 10years later I forgot about the need for stickers as obviously did the previous owners of the van (very large company)
I will state for one last time I know I was wrong but cannot believe that the police use their resources to check for stickers, I also think the fine is disproportionate with the crime

Thanks.

Well that is good to know.

My 'company van' is owned by me and in my name.

But is used daily for work by myself and others.

I presume I don't need a sticker.

Unfortunately you will need a sticker if the vehicle is used for work and used by more than one person, if you get stopped you can say that you are the only person that uses it then you are exempt and you can smoke in it

What was stopping you making sure your own business was compliant then?

Irony overload.
It was 10 years ago that the legislation came in a lot of things have happened since then

We are a small company with three directors and one employee we all work either at our unit or driving, I do 99% of the driving my fellow director (nephew) only drives if I am on holiday, it is a 14 plate Mercedes sprinter, with approx 110,000 miles, always Insurared, taxed and mot’d, unfortunately my nephew was driving, they were pulling every van and the car park was full apparently, everything on our van (apart from the sticker, which we now have) was legal, there was no fine for a f****n sticker, Han I been driving I may well have said I was the only driver then you don’t need a sticker

To clarify the various points made it was the council that issued the FPN, they were there supported by the police, they took various pictures inside the cab to show it did not have a sticker, spoke to one of our customers who was 100yards from where we were pulled and he told us he got pulled about three weeks ago, the same guy who pulled him then visited his premises with a FPN for not displaying a no smoking sign at his premises without checking, when he showed him his sticker (bearing in mind he is a butcher) he then asked for his waste disposal records, it is ilford council being support by an under resourced police looking to make some more C***s

Just to confirm to everyone, there was no vosa present only police and council, the police did not check anything they were only there to stop the vans, only thing they checked was if we had stickers, they were not concerned about anything else, council just took photos of inside the cab, just a money making exercise ( just to confirm apart from the sticker our vans and our business is totally legal) thought I should confirm that as a few on here are doubtful

Had I been in the van, how many drivers? Only me
Ok thanks on your way, if it is only you driving you can do what you want in the van, sorry was not asking for sympathy £200 will not fold our business but was just commenting on what a waste of police resources
