BBC said:
Police have appealed for information to trace the drivers of four cars who were seen travelling at more than 140mph miles on the M74.

The vehicles were going southbound between Johnstonebridge and Ecclefechan at around 12:15 on Sunday.

A police patrol car observed the blue BMW M6, orange Nissan GTR, red Audi S5 and grey Porsche GT3 travelling in convoy at excessive speed.

Officers were unable to stop the cars. They urged witnesses to come forward.
Okay, who was it!

Interesting that they identified the exact models of cars but not the reg details...I thought they had ANPR across the motorway network these days, or does it not work at 140mph?

So I guess they couldn’t keep up then.

Sounds a fun convoy, I imagine they'll either hand themselves in or be dobbed in by someone with a dashcam.

Should probably have done a road trip over to Germany and done it legally, can't imagine they'll get away with it.

Being Sunday, I immediately thought Gumball, but it's no where near the right spot, unless they were super late to the grid....

I thought they had average speed cameras all over that road...

It’s the perfect road for that. You can see for miles, 3 lanes and empty most of the time. I should know, I was charged for doing 105.4mph!

Only on the extension into Glasgow and long may it continue to be that little coverage!

Thought it would be well know that anything south of Moffat and north of Carlisle (M74 & M6) is often well patrolled.

If I had a dashcam but nothing unfortunate happened would I check footage and report them? Not sure I would.

Bits of the M74 are probably about as good as it gets for safe high speed driving in the UK. As already said, bits where you can see miles and I've been on bits of it a few times with 3 lanes and not a car in sight in front or behind me. I sat at 70 the whole time because to have done any more would have been dangerous. wink

140mph on that section of road? It must have been snowing.

Agreed. I had the road to myself last time I was up there and the matrix board said “drive to the conditions”
And that, my lord, concludes the case for the defence.

Haven't the police got better things to do? If the road was quiet and they weren't being daft, honestly who cares. Ridiculous.

97.5 for me on that southbound stretch approaching Dumfries years ago. Mile after mile of empty Motorway in perfect conditions and there they were with their van, instead of perhaps catching people speeding in genuinely dangerous locations. Just as well they hadn't been a few miles further north...

Guaranteed a dashcammer will have the footage.

You could see for miles but you didn't see the cameras/police car ahead;)
