Got a nice picture through the post today of my illegal plate along with my £100 picture fee !!!. Not that illegal that they couldnt find me though sadly. I am not sure if the van was ANPR or if it was a speeding cam van that took the pic. I wasnt speeding, just the plate got recorded. If its now common to take these pics through speed cam vans then I guess a lot will possibly suffer, but ANPR vans are a lot less common. Does anyone know the type of vans that capture and fine illegal plates?

Simple answer is don't use illegal plates.

Why do you feel you need to have them?
Thanks for your valuable input to this post.................... lets say i am asking for the thousands and thousands that do take the odd criminal liberty.

Doesn't make it right (even with your exaggeration as to the numbers) and you still haven't answered why.
Jeez ...it was the correct font, typeface etc. one space was removed. And if you think dodgy plates number in the hundreds only then you are sadly mistaken. Can you go and get indignant on some other post now?

I can clearly see the vitriole towards taking a liberty with any number plate. Lets all accepts its crap, i am a knob like your neighbours and all others convicted of any motoring offence etc etc. I was just surprised after having it on the car in the exact same format for 15 years cameras are just picking up on it thats all. I am not defending the plate or myself, just curious to understand the changes in camera abilities etc.

So what makes you so special then, that you have to alter your number plate to help identify who you are?

Just because other people do it doesn't make it right.

Not indignant, just find it funny that you know it's illegal, have got a fine (hopefully one of many) yet still think it's OK and have a go at someone who thinks otherwise. But then I forget you are "special"
Had i asked your views on private plates and legalities of, i would perhaps expect to get them. If you feel the need to provide them in any case then so be it. I dont recall saying i was special or ever defended the plate in any way whatsoever, i dont even care about the fine, its peanuts. My question was simply on cam van capability. Lets just finish this by saying you are right, I am wrong and move on.

For somebody who's not defending themselves, you're awfully defensive. I'm surprised that with 122 months under your belt you hadn't picked up on the general distate for personal numberplates there is round here.

Back to the original point...I'd be surprised if speed cams were being used for this but clearly it's technically possible. Can you identify the piece of road from the pic as that might help pinpoint if it's a known spot for the camera guys.
No not defending myself at all, its wrong, i got done and rightly so. Looked on the pic and it was a speed cam location according to the web site on mobile cams. But on the misread bit then i agree.......... got that one wrong didnt I. That will teach me ......next post will be on more vanilla subjects for sure smile

Ok let me be clear. My post was purely about possible new capabilities of cameras to pick up non standard plates (yes illegal if you will) and issue immediate fines, i am aware of several in one morning near Santa Pod and each one had been using the plates for years with no issue.. At no point did i complain about being done, at no point did i even suggest I wanted mass hugs, i am not so insecure. I never suggested the system was unfair. Clearly anyone who doesnt conform to the PC correctness is a tt, should be stoned, have his or in this case her car crushed blah blah blah. It seems i set off the do gooders and they all felt the need to add their 1p worth and missing my purely inquisitive question. Imagine if I had admited to getting an SP 30 in the laws view a more serious crime.........i would have had the lynch mob round. All those that felt the need to vent their spleen good on you, can we assume you have never commited a motoring related offence?
So can we simpy agree
- I am a tt
- i should have my car crushed
- you are all far better motorists than me
- I am being over defensive
- i needed group hugs
whatever it is you feel the need to go on about my question you are right, I fully accept it all. I think perhaps we have now fully missed the real point, and its unlikely we will get back to it. But I just remain curious as to capabilities not indignant that i got done !

OP, if any of the following apply to you

your car has a mis-spaced plate
your car has black wheels
you park even slightly across a white line
you own any sort of SUV
you own any BMW except a classic M car
you own an Audi
you own a Peuegot (205 excepted)
you exceed the speed limit by even 3 mph
you think about using your phone on the same day as you're using your car
you have a bodykit on your car
your car has wheels larger than 15"
your car has tinted windows
your car has smoked lenses
you don't also cycle and own 3 bikes
you think cyclists should stop at red lights
you live in a council house
you have a car parked on your lawn
you live in an ex-council house

then you're public enemy number 1 and in breach of the PH tasteful poster charter and the PH taste police will hound you with increasing ferocity until you agree to conform as obviously your taste and how you spend your money and time is not up to you, but instead up to a set of sanctimonious holier than thous on an Internet forum thumbup
Guilty to some but certainly not all. I remember about 10 years ago nigh on every car unusual, fast, modified had a PH sticker on, it was a common site. I rarely see them now , perhaps they have been hunted down online and told to conform or had their PH badges removed in a shameful public ceremony. The last one I did see was on a bog standard Astra. Oh crap, for the record I have nothing against Astra's, their drivers, their emissions and commonality. I cant afford the plate taste police and the peoples front of Vauxhall on my case.......

Interesting, as somebody who runs a plate that is both mid-spaced and 2/3 size I should probably keep a look out.

Car does <3k a year though so will likely be ok...where was this van?
A45 Billing near Northampton. You are brave to admit your plate crime on here......very brave

Holy cow........i really wasnt expecting to cause such a stir as the OP. I can see some people have been out stalking the plate online......damn thats scary smile
For the record my question was purely based around the fact the cameras are picking up on such things now. I had not heard of this recently and was purely wondering if this was a new capability. I never even complained about the fine or being done and i sure didnt need a whole bunch of PH love for sure !

Its a little disturbing that the second post decided to turn the whole thing in to a righteous crusade and somehow this led to me be being a knob a tt and my car and i should be crushed. I think the question has been answered somewhere along the line smile Hopefully this will leave the key board warriors to find another righteous cause of indignance and insist anyone not conforming to their view of the world shall be stoned. I think this is the end.........please god !!

You got it bro.

And why wouldn't they?

As Dromedarry66 has correctly pointed out, any miscreant who is prepared to stick two figures up at the law by displaying an illegal Chav plate purely for their own vanity and general insecurities will think nothing of being involved in other often more serious criminal activities.

Hardly rocket science is It? rolleyes

And so many of these Chavplaters are seen regularly driving like a bell end in a vain attempt to further massage their fragile ego.

Wow, there is a leap of logic ......i have an illegal plate and am thus more likely to be responsible for more serious crimes. I wonder if we took a poll of all those currently locked up which percentage had an illegal plate. think about it.......not many why in gods name would you draw attention to yourself. Thats keyboard hysteria at is best. Given speeding is even more of a heinous crime according to the law, we should instantly avoid anyone caught speeding as likely to be a serial killer or at best a kidnapper. I genuinely worry for some people I really do..........
Personally i think anyone with a standard plate is trying to blend in, hiding in plain site their serious criminal behaviour. Only the innocent are prepared to stand out. Stupid?, of course it is.........but stupidity didnt seem to deter your comment so why should it deter mine?
