Hello SPL,

Our housemate was taken off her bike this evening in East London. She was turning left from a crossroads and was hit head on by a car turning right into her road and cutting the corner. He sped off and she was helped by some bystanders before we came to pick her up. Unfortunately she was pretty shaken up and didn’t want to call the police at the time, also in the confusion forgot to take the details of her witnesses.

There’s plenty of CCTV overlooking the crossroads, hopefully the witnesses also report it. Are there any steps we can take (putting in a report now) and can the police do anything with it?

Yep. Definitely inform the police
Done, gave 101 a call and they advised what to do. She took a turn for the worst last night, felt sick and dizzy so went to A+E fearing concussion.

Where about in East London?
Stratford, in one of the new developments by the Olympic park. Right here in fact, she was turning left and the car crossed into her lane as it turned right knocking her to the pavement.

I'd expect to be compensated for damage to my bike wouldn't you?
Also loss of earnings as she's self-employed, a little bit extra for the inconvenience of being run over by some stbag is never amiss.

But let's not let all of that get in the way of stinkyspanner's willy waving.

Ignore some of the bullst on here... definitely get it reported and make sure it’s followed up as this kind of thing is the thin end of the wedge, and people shouldn’t be allowed to get away with it.

Whilst s172 notices are seen as draconian in relation to speeding, they are exceptionally useful with stuff like this since it forces the RK (very often the driver) to place themselves there or as a consolation prize end up with 6 points... we’ve used these on a number of occasions with ‘pool car’ type muppets and they are very effective.

Obviously you do need a reg. good luck!
Cheers, housemate is still laid up at the minute so haven't had a chance to chat to her to see if the police have responded yet. There's so much CCTV around there that a reg must have been caught, does anyone how easy it is to get footage from local council controlled cameras?

I've got pictures of the cameras and their serial numbers from the night, will get a request in. Thanks all.

Housemate is all recovered, save a few nasty bruises up and down one side of her. Police wrote to her, no further action after reviewing CCTV evidence as they couldn't identify the car.

I think the issue was that they couldn't get a reg off the car, so not a lot they can do in that case. I told her to stick a data protection thing in for the footage just as a matter of course.
