So 15 days ago my Father in law had an altercation with another older guy (FIL 72, other guy 61) guy tried to cut from the middle lane across him to take left exit, FIL refused to let him in and the stayed side by side for 1/2 mile (FIL in a big curtainside van) and at some point the guy has hit his mirror off the van.

He then proceeds to force the van to stop, exits his car, smashes both drivers windows, windscreen and passenger window, can't see what he's used but it made light work of the windows. also threatened to kill FIL.

Thankfully FIL ok, van fixed 2 days later, I took him to the police station 5 days later to give in dash cam footage, photos of the damage and a statement saying I removed then off the dashcam. FIL gave a statement of what happened and the police said he would be arrested within 5 days and charged with public order offence and a few others.

Heard absolutely nothing since apart from CPS are building a case. dash cam clearly shows the full encounter, clear registration and photos of the driver. The police person I spoke to said 'if its the guy i think / I'm pretty sure it is' so we know they could identify the guy off previous record.

What's taking so long? we originally thought they would speak to him the same day, I know the police are really understaffed but surely this type of thing should be a slightly higher priority?

if the CPS decide not to go ahead, is there anything we can do to see some justice?

(FTR I know it would have been easier to let the guy in and avoid the situation, but the same time the guy knew exactly what he was doing, two wrongs don't make a right)

Good old pistonheads.

To clean things up.

Police officer told us the year the offender was born, my FIL said he looked mid thirties, I said late 50's.

For those thinking my FIL is the issue, it wasn't a motorway, but a 3 lane road. FIL in lane 1, offender in lane 2. they where at some red traffic lights with the offender in the middle lane, about 1/2 a car length in front, they set off from the lights and after my FIL was filtering left, the other guy wanted to cut across his lane and turn left. The offender could have went 1/2 a mile up the road and turned right and ended up in the same place (slip road on the left takes them over a flyover) the guy tried to force his way in within 20-30 meters of the turning, when my FIL was already moving. He also had his van loaded so he wasn't going to slam on to let an idiot in.

Guy got upset he couldn't bully my FIL out the way, my FIL isn't the type of person to cut someone up or be aggressive, he's quite a relaxed driver and in 4 years of having a dash camera this is the only thing he's ever had.

Big question, if it was me or one of my BIL driving, would the guy have done it? I very much doubt it.

Yes my FIL would do it again,

FTR I have already said my stance on it, I was actually expecting it to go this way, it's pistonheads...

Hopefully an image will clear things up, FIL lane 1 (black) Offender lane 2 (white) FIL has went left, he's forced FIL over onto the hatchings, the hatchings last around 1/2 a mile and then swaps to two lanes, guys stopped the van a further 1/2 a mile after the hatchings ended. the positions I have put on is where the guy started indicating

Update, after making a complaint about lack of updates apparently the guy has replied he will attend a voluntary interview with a lawyer
